I've got one going into my car at some point. I'm fairly certain this was developed after they found existing catch cans were't coping as well as they hoped on various BT applications.

sexy looking for sure. Any idea on what the internals of the can look like?

here is my BFI and love it. Basically same but the plate on the bfi is not solid and more of stock fitment and hoses are the same but with BFI they are routed together. Plus very easy to empty the BFI, unscrew the top and the cap stays on the bracket because the gasket is under the bracket. Turn over and empty the can screw back on.

also the IM cap comes with a block off in the center or a fitting to tap your boost gauge to.

Anyone have pics of the BFI installed on a B7. I always liked the stock look of it on a MKV and I think the RAI has an equally stock appearance from what I see, and it (the RAI) has a lower price so at this point I'm leaning that direction

However, I've heard the 034 catch can doesnt allow you to retain the engine cover very well. If the RAI catch can does without any issues, then it has my vote.

Well now we have a few good options! So let's see which work for people overall?
034= great product with silicon hoses, but does not fit well with engine cover. $275 full kit
RAI= drain plug for easier.... draining. comes with mounting plate and braided steel lines. Engine cover fitment issues? $335 full kit
42DD= build-it-yourself universal kit (no mounting plate, lines, clamps, etc) that claims to be a "step above." Engine cover fitment issues? $235+hardware
Shane, can you comment to you 42DD kit and what you needed for a complete install?

I love my 034 setup. I used SS braided lines, 034 block off plate, eurojet cap & the 034 Vortex can. I had this all on my B5 and it took very lil work to make it fit the B7.
Dont forget about the EuroJet OCC & there is one for sale for pretty damnn cheap

So far almost the best design I've seen. Only thing they need to do is make both lines with a 90 degree on one end, and straight on the other end. That way the lines can be run like the pic below, and the engine cover will fit perfectly. RAI take note!

DRAKLORE
04-08-2012, 07:43 PM
No the 42 dd would be hard pressed to fit without different hoses or some excessive cutting. It's meant for a transverse MKv
Not sure if 034 is selling their pre bent hoses seperate but you could piece together a kit easy enough.
BlackGecko

RAI's pic of their catch can on their website shows 2 lines with 90 degree ends. Aznkae, you have a 90 degree going into the catch can on your setup. Are you saying that it would be better to have 1 line with two 90 degree ends and 1 line with one straight end and one 90 degree end?

I know in thier photo it shows both lines with 90 degree ends on both ends however this is not how it comes or installs. If you look at the rest of the pics on thier site it shows it installed the same way I have mine. Even if it did come with another 90 degree end the hose itself is not long enough to route around towards the front of the engine like how swoadrider described. If RAI decides to modify this it would def make things better. I mean I know its only to make the engine cover fit, but its the little things that make the difference.

Good. I maybe selling mine in favor of yours then, as my catch can uses those cheap brass pipe thread 90 degree elbows, which cannot be tightened correctly, and start to seep oil over time.

I installed mine and drove about 500 miles in about 3 weeks, went to drain it and got about a tablespoon.. so fo me I would check it once a month, maybe twice during the winter. The drain makes it super easy to empty.

We designed the bracket so that you can flip it around to move it more towards the firewall and get the room you need for FMIC piping.
