There have been a lot of discussions regarding fog light bulbs and fog light grille/guard removal.
On a 2011 S4....BOTH the plastic guards are held by clips and snap out (start from the center of the car). The passengers is a solid piece so it takes a little "jiggling" and extra elbow grease.
Mine popped out without any damage.

I don't think anyone has said they cannot be popped out, however, it's usually as or more easy to just remove 2 screws and access the assembly from inside the wheel well.

I think it was based on your DYI. You didn't say it couldn't be done, but didn't say it could. I popped mine off as well. Much faster than getting to the screws in the back, I felt at least.

This. It literally took me 3 min from start to finish to swap the fog lights on both sides using this method...

agreed...its easier to snap both sides off then going in from behind (no pun intended).

I actually have to snap off this grill from time to time just to clean out the leaves that get stuck in front of the intercooler. Something a lot of people dont seem to realize happens.

Resurrecting. I still do not know how to remove the fog light covers. I sat there trying but really had no idea where to start or how they are clipped in to even attempt. Could anyone provide a bit more details than "they snap out" and "take a little jiggling"
Do you use tools?
Do you just pull them hard directly out until they pop off?
Or is there a certain direction of force that should be taken to not break anything?

I recommend starting with the driver side (left hand drive cars lol). There are gaps between the horizontal fins for air intake. You can put your fingers in, push the grille in a little and also pull either the top or bottom toward the center. After you get it started, try to angle it out from the inner part of the car toward the outside. The passenger side definitely takes more effort. I tried it but found it safer to go through the wheel well as I didn't want to snap anything.

Just grad it firmly, wiggle and pull. Comes out without damage but it does take a little force. Have removed it 4 times now without any problems

I too went through the wheel well for the passenger side. Had to go through the grill on the driver side. I was afraid of damaging it too but it had to get done. So i just tugged and it popped out. I used both hands to keep it even plus I'm weak! LOL Good luck!
