Hello all, question for the guys that have done the license plate LED bulb with resistor. I followed the instructions here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/202249-LED-License-Plate-Lights-DIY.

Specifically I tapped the two left wires in going into the trunk that power the trunk release and license plate. Trunk release still works and license plate LED work fine but I'm still getting a bulb out error on my color display. I used a 15-25 ohm 25 watt resistor from here: http://superlumination.com/equalizers.htm which I thought that was all that was required. On testing my resistor gets warm so I know its getting power.

What am I missing here? The only thing I can think is I was running the LED bulbs for a while before installing the resistor so do I need the bulb out error cleared from the computer?

check to make sure you tap the right wire. you will need to tap the brown and grayish purple looking wire

So looking at the wiring from the rear of the car it is brown, grey, brown, brown/black. I tapped the first two. Did I not get the right ones?

This is the thread I used when I did my resistor install.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/235841-Fixed-the-Flickering-LED-Plate-light!!

If you got the left most wires (brown/gray) you are connected to the correct wires, so it may be possible that you have a faulty resistor?

The Color DIS seem to always be a guarentee for trouble when it comes to the LEDs in the license plate.

The car does a check when you cycle the key, so if you turn the key all the way off and back on, that should be all you have to do. When I did mine, I had the BOW (bulb-out-warning), installed resistor, put the key in the ignition turned to the ON position and the BOW was gone.

open up a light and put a 100 ohm resister around the bulb prongs, if that doesn't work add another 100 ohm resister on the other light and call it a day.

It's just so much easier, takes literally 3minutes

100 ohm, but how many watts?

The higher the watt, the less heat dissipated. I went with 100ohm 2Watt's. Don't go with any lower than 1W

I honestly had so many problems getting My LED's to run error/ problem free that i ended up coughing up cash and just got these..

they work perfectly with my Color DIS, no errors.. yet. and saved me a lot of headaches

I can't wait till I start playing with LEDs, my car throws no codes when a bulb is out, anywhere... it's weird :S

License plate/turn signal/tail light... nothing

So after driving the car for about 10 mins the bulb out warning went away, weird. I did have the correct wires. Thanks for the info everyone.

Ah yes, that should be added to the DIY if it isn't there already, you need to drive to clear any blub out warnings.
