Alright, gurus, I need your help. I have a 12" sub in a sealed box, and just hooked it up to a generic amp. Power values aren't the issue here.

What is the issue is this: low deep bass sounds awesome, but there is a specific bass tone that sounds terrible. It is a low enough frequency that I cannot cut it out with either the eq on the stereo or the lp filter on the amp. It almost sounds like a rattling, but it isn't. It's just a strange frequency that isn't reproduced well.

My first notion is that possibly the box is a little too small for the speaker itself, and the air inside the box is not allowing the speaker full range of motion at this frequency. Reason for this assumption is it does not sound bad at lower volume levels, but appears at a higher volume, or a higher gain on the amp.

If this is the case, is it something that can be fixed with some poly fill in the box? Or would I need a new box?

Or, the only other cause could be a fault within the amp itself. Any ideas?

How big is the box? and how big of a box does the sub specs call for? Maybe try polyfill first, its cheap, and if that does not fix it go from there. Check your box is properly sealed, that nothing is loose around it etc.

your problem might be your amp you might need to up grade or make sure that your filters or on, on the amp so you get nothing but the right base going to your speakers make sure your coils are not burnt on your speakers maybe you pushed the gain to far and might of burned the coils on your sub

It might be a panel resonance or cabin gain issue. If your sub box is easy to remove, I suggest taking it out of the car, placing it on the ground and playing it again, with the sub facing away from the car. Play it that way and see if it offends.
