anyone have tips for cleaning them up? mine are tarnished and id like to fix that tomorrow on my day off

http://www.autogeek.net/mg13005.html I think you can find this at your local auto parts store..... I never tried it but it should work on the roof rails

Are you sure these are bare metal? Mine have a few nicks in them, and it sure looks like the finish is dipped or sprayed. I'm not speaking from experience here - just caution. I'd probably start with a mild paint polish - chemical or abrasive - to see what that does. Meguiar's Scratch-X if you're shopping locally, or maybe Poorboy's Pro Polish if you're going to autogeek anyway.
Good luck. Again, I'm not suggesting I know the right answer...but I'd hate to see you make them look worse.

thanks ill have to try this! my detailer tried a magic eraser and some type of metal polish and it looks better then it did but still not as good as id like

From my understanding they are painted and clear-coated anyways - standard detailing supplies should work fine.
