When I was replacing the VC gasket and putting on a new VC this snapped off when torquing down the nuts. I read that the torque specs were 7 ft.lbs. It snapped before I even had it torqued down fully.
How fucked am I?

its just a stud, take VC back off and remove the stud...source one from another car and screw it in

Not a big deal. Just take the valve cover off again, and wind out what is left of the stud with some vise grips, or use the "double-nut" method. Use some loc-tite to install the new one. You can wind it in with vise grips (don't grab the threads), or double-nut method again.

This is assuming you have some of the stud left sticking out of the head, which it looks like you have plenty. If not, you'll need an extractor tool of choice.

Here is the stud you need:

Thanks a ton guys. I don't get why it would break before the proper torque specs were achieved though. Faulty stud?

I hate that feeling of torquing something and all of a sudden there is less force and snap... always seems to happen on the last one too... Hope you get it fixed!

I'm gonna have it fixed tomorrow. There is a local junkyard that I know has at least six 1.8t's in it.

I wish my local had anything euro, unfortunately its populated with a ton of cavaliers and ghetto caddilacs. How nice it must be to have that many there.
