I recently purchased a B7 A4 Avant with the RNS-E. After a few days of driving around and using the navigation features I noticed that it seemed like the turn by turn directions shown in the instrument cluster didn't realy make any sense. The pictures looked kind of right but there was always a bit of missing information where you would expect it to be. So l looked online and through my owners manual and it seems like my instrument cluster DIS screen is missing some colors.
The predominant color on the DIS screen is blue, the only other time that I see a different color is when windshield washer fluid warning comes on in green.
So am I correct to assume that something is not quite right with my car? Has anyone else seen anything like this?
If this is indeed a problem I guess I'll have to take out the insturment cluster, maybe check some solder joints, if not maybe buy another cluster and change over the LCD screen, like I had to do for my B5....
Here's a shot of it

most likely your cluster display chip on actual board has failed, you will need new cluster, I have met with similar event, tried to replace with lcd from broken cluster and it didn't help, you can try to replace it..

Yeah, that IS interesting. And expensive. Contact Mpower here on the forums, send him a message he may have a spare cluster- the LCD on these newer clusters isn't soldered, it just snaps in like the ribbon cable connections in a PC. Otherwise the dealer will want upwards of $1k to replace that.

Thanks for the information. Here's an interesting new data point from this weekend. I was up in Vermont this doing some skiing and when I turned on the car in the morning after leaving it out in -8 degree weather, the screen started working perfectly! After 10-15 minutes when the inside of the cabin warmed it went to back to displaying blue colors. That leads me to think that its not likly to be a faulty IC chip, but rather a mechanical connection or cold solder joint issue. I will take it out and apart this weekend and look at the connections to see what I can find. I have access to very good soldering and diagnostic equipment being a hardware design engineer.... That ribbon cable connection may just be the culprit.

if your LCD ribbon cable connection is similar to PC like then possibly the ribbon is faulty, depends where the separation is , if it is close to LCD glass then you are out of luck, which possibly it sounds like, since when cold the ribbon does shrink a little, once warms up it stretches , it lost it's connection , best take it apart unplug the lcd and plug back in
