I removed my stock head unit early on in ownership with the keys (cheaps one from amazon) but in my haste I fubared the locks I was using them backwards. A while later when my dice started acting up I realized how bad they are messed up. I even bought new keys from ecs right side has no engagement with the clips.
So I'd really like install my rsn-e I just picked up, dose anyone have any tips/tricks for removal? I ready for full destruction but not if I don't have to.

IIRC, it should be possible like so: Remove the glove compartment (about a dozen 8mm hex bolts), which will expose the right side of the head unit. You will also have to expose the left side, which I imagine is possible by removing the steering column cover, but I've never been in there.
Once you have both sides exposed, the clips that retain the head unit are accessible, and they look like small metal spring clips curving into the deck right next to where the slots are. If you were to put the key in, you would see these clips move inward (or outward, but I think it's inward). So you should be able to operate the locking mechanism by pushing or pulling on the clips from the side. Start with the right side, reach around the back of the head unit and push it out. If that works, do the same for the left side until all four locks are free.

Well, I'll try the glove box which would be great since the left side still works with the tool. Thanks
