I have a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro sedan with only 45000 miles, and my car sometimes exerts a bunch of white smoke when I accelerate too fast, or if I floor the engine. When the issue first started to happen, I took it to the Audi dealer and they said this was caused by a PCV breather valve, so I had them go ahead and replace this part. After they did this, it seemed to fix some vibration issues I had, but I still had the oil burning issue. So I took the car back to the dealer to have them look at it, and they said that my turbo needs to be replaced because oil is leaking into the intercooler, and burning the oil. They quoted me $2600 to replace the turbo. Does this diagnostic sound about right? Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

thanks

Could be. Pull the hose off the turbo (front intake hose), see if there is and shaft play and more importantly, any oil slowly leaking down.
White smoke is completely unburnt fuel, and is usually caused by a bad injector.

So basically check the turbo for that, and if there is no shaft play or oil, then I would put my money on injectors.

Check the turbo inlet pipe off of the back of the valve cover first. If the check valve goes bad it can dump oil down in there and you can get smoke and oil in the intercooler piping. HHere is what it looks like http://www.audizine.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=64106&title=turbo-inlet-pipe&cat=500

that or a bad pcv will let oil into your intercoolers also correct?

I blame the PCV on everything :) as a matter of fact i just took my BSH off because of the smoke in neutral and put a stock one back on. First 2 fill ups I was getting 370+ miles to the tank and now hardly 3 and seems to not run as smooth. Bad PCV I am sure. Might deal with the smokey BSH or buy a different system.

OP, I just realized your year and mileage. Turbo should be covered by your powertrain warranty (5yr/60,000 miles from original service date) so it should be covered unless you have a very early 07. I can verify your in-service date for you, but I'd need your VIN. Feel free to PM it to me if you want

bad turbo means bluish smoke which is caused by burning oil. White smoke comes from burning coolant ie bad head gasket amoung other things. This is most likely not caused by the turbo.

I thought it was 4yr/50,000 miles warranty on our cars for everything of course excluding some extensions on certain items etc????

4yr/50k is the New Vehicle Limited warranty. But the powertrain should be 5/60k unless they changed it

thanks for the suggestions. I'm not very good with cars, i'm just a computer tech. So maybe i'll have my friend who works on cars take some of your suggestions and try to see what's going on.

Not sure if yours if the same or not but here's what I have been dealing with:

Turbo was replaced under warranty. Seems to have fixed everything so far.

White smoke is caused buy coolant burning. Like what martin0079 said. I had a evo that went threw two head gaskets and it blew white smoke out the back, but I also had my coolant tank blowing bubbles..

Unburnt fuel is black, oil is blue and white could be coolant or condensation. Blue is slightly harder to notice.

Pull the discharge pipe and see if there is any oil, is the turbo making full boost, are you chipped?
