I want S4 sides, but if I don't think I can do it for cheap, gonna look for something else (not willing to pay that much for all that hardware, etc)

Someone had these:
A!avantgarde Sides

Anyone know where to get these? They look clean, and are probably a lot cheaper than S4s.

You're right, they do...very nice.

Problem is, they're $833 for the set! Might as well goto the stealership and get a set of real S4 sides for that kinda money =/ Why are these things so friggin expensive. It's a piece of plastic haha

Any other suggestions?

I prefer the caractere to the S4 sides.

Dont buy the OEM lower door moldings, just get painted 3M moldings for less than a quarter of the OEM price.

Which are you talking about? I'm guessing they're all ABS except the Rennen <- fiberglass.

s4 sides are cheap if you already have lower door moldings.

$80-$120 per side skirt x2
$20-30/each for rear brackets x2
$30 for 10 rings/clips

then, paint your a4 lower door moldings (*note: s4 side skirts will rub against the a4 lower door moldings, so you need to somehow move them up)

IMO very cost effective.

I have the front passenger and driver lower door mouldings available for sale. Check the exterior section in the classifieds.

beejohn put out all the essentials for doing s4 sides... which comes out to around $300 new which is not bad at all...they also pop up in the classifieds every now and then... i got mine in the FS section with brackets for under $200. s4 sides can actually be one of the cheaper routes to take... [cool]

ill tell you guys this much about s4 side skirts.

i had been in the search for s4 side skirts for a long time, and the one misconception i can clear up is that they arent cheap. they are $300 from clair parts for both skirts + ship. they are around $218 per side from the dealer.

the lower door mouldings from the dealer is basically the only place i have found to carry them and they are about $125-$200 per peice so add that up 8 mouldings altogether.

the hardware is not as necisary as everyone else thinks. its basically just nuts and bolts. and the mounting brackets are $25 each and you will need 4, 1 per front 1 per rear per side.

start adding this up and you will see that s4 sides arent cheap either way you look at it.

i got my s4 side skirts used for $550 from a friend with the lower door moulding peices and i would have easily payed $750 considering the pice of everything.

most of the time you will find people selling the skirts themself for maybe $200-$300 but remember those are the cheapest peices of everything.

good luck finding s4 side skirts because the cost of them has gone up dramatically and anyone selling them ussally sells them faster than a drug addict on crack

bbr sides are ugly, rennentuning sides have potential...

but i really need to see them on a car (not photoshopped like that one, makes it look super glossy and unfinished-- if it really is that unfinished look on the real thing im not sure i'll like it).
if the sides are well defined and look good on silver, im down.

anyone got pics?

problem is, once you get those sides you HAVE to get a rear. And, as you all know... 99% of the rear bumpers for our car are ASS DRAGERS and look horrendous.

I recently saw a really nice rear bumper that looked similar to this one:
http://www.dtmautohaus.com/img/a4_31_1F.jpg

i think that one is kinda ugly too, but the one i saw had these differences:
- no three hole thingies in the back
- the lowest slit ended just before the exhaust, instead of going across the exhaust
- had a slight "lip" to it, just like the oettinger rear does

i have to say, it looked hot. the car had a kersher front bumper, kersher sides. i would assume kersher rear, but the kersher rear is also an ugly POS.

anyways, lemme know if you guys find it.

P.S. I already have the Rieger RS4 bumper and am in the same boat as you guys, deciding which rear/sides. I really like the s4 side skirts/rear look, but ofcourse it doesn't perfectly match up in some angles. If I can't find a better solution, thats the setup.

well, i know dealers vary, but $218 a piece is just too much. are you sure it wasn't for both sides? my local dealer [keyes audi] quoted $120 a piece.. i found that to be a bit too much since i've seen them for under $200 new on the internet on a site i will dig up later... but yea, i just roamed the classifieds..put up want ads and was getting msgs and offers. you will get them for under $200 that i am sure because i had more than one offer within a week. about the mouldings i'm not too sure, but either way.. at $125 a piece x 8 thats already $1000, which is rediculous. there are alternatives to lower trim as well if for some reason audi went mad and really did try to sell the trim for $1000. you could pay a lot if you wanted to, but you don't have to...

oh yea and beejohn.. that bumper you posted...the piece that runs across below the exhaust is actually an added piece sold seperately...the bumper alone comes w/out it so there is nothing running across below the exhaust... [:)]

Could somebody please post links to the best prices for S4, Caractere, and those Rennen Tunning skirts (just the plastic sideskirts, no nuts/bolts). I'd like to end my year long quest for something to cover up the ugly confusion between my doors! Thank you.

4buck, cheapest price for caractere side skirts i've found:
http://www.sfxperformance.com/catalog/style_category.asp?MainCategory=Exterior%20Styling&SubCategory=Side%20Skirts&Style=Audi%20/%20Volkswagen

i already posted above the best price for a full set of s4 side skirts.

also, on a side note, this is how I think you can easily use a4 lower door moldings w/s4 side skirts:
1) remove a4 lower door moldings
2) remove brackets from the side of the door (i believe they are just screwed in)
3) paint a4 lower door moldings
4) get velcro & 3m double sided tape (get the heavy duty stuff). use the double sided tape for the top of the lower door molding, and the velcro for the bottom; and attach them to the door so that they do not come in contact w/s4 side skirts.

finished it should look like this:
http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2161451.phtml

And you are done.

Saves you $125x8 dollars, and so simple huh?

A! skirts are fiberglass, there is no known new sets in existance as far as i know. the last shop to have some was dtm autohaus, i believe they still have a couple rear A! bumpers for avants.

once you get the skirts on you will still need to figure something out for the door sills, unless you like fiberglass sills. i ended up getting aluminum sills done...worked out ok

definitely one of the nicest rears ive seen for the a4 wnut, good job. minus the double-chin look, if only it could be flush.

but, i still don't think the A! avantgarde side skirts go low enough for the rieger rs4 front. from the angle you posted it looks fine. but, looking at it from the front from low you can tell it needs beefier side skirts just cuz of the bumper; but it's ONLY that angle.

wnut, i believe your car didn't come with lower door moldings right? which is why you can't do the mod i posted above.

yep...didn't really dig the double chin look but my bodyshop wasn't confident eneough to mold it in seemlessly. they were afraid that the flex and movement of the bumper will cause bits to fall out and paint to spider/crack. oh wells...

i ended up removing the and selling the door molding and replacing it with the trim guard stuff. (which my shop did not want to paint...i planned to eventually shave the entire rub strip and molding...but as you see it never happened).

i would suggest that one cuts the oem door molding and just have it painted.
