So after the VP of my company drove into my B7 in our parking lot, I took the poor thing for its body work. After the repairs, the stealership told me there was an open recall on the ignition coils. Cool! Thanks for replacing them free of charge!

One month later, and I'm blowing through gas like nobody's business. I am down to 240-270 miles per tank... MUCH lower than before. My driving hasn't changed, I don't do much city traffic, and have an 8 mile highway commute in the mornings.

Called the stealership today...

Audi: "I've never heard of an ignition coil replacement affecting gas mileage"
Me: "Well it started after you guys did the open recall."
Audi: "Well we can take a look at it, diagnostics will be $99."
Me: "I'll get back to you on that..."

........ What is going on with my car? :(

if you think it's the coils then just replace them. you should really keep a spare set in the trunk anyway. beyond that, a month is a long time, and you haven't provided much info other than "mah mileage sux", more info would be helpful.

I'm averaging 17 miles per gallon now, according to the trip computer. Now, my check engine light just came on during my lunch break. Nothing else has really been wrong with the car. Performance and everything has seemed ok, but something is definitely wrong.

the wife is avg. 36.3 on the cvt....me not so much at 28. Replaced the pcv with the 034 cc and mileage went up by about 10. Checked the old pcv and it's still working fine.

Well I'm going to stop by Advanced Auto Parts after work because they do free diagnostic readings.... if it's coil related, I'm headed straight to the f***ing dealer and making them fix it.

P2004, P2006, P2007: Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed

This certainly explains the gas mileage issue, since the engine isn't getting the air measurements it needs. Now for the fixes... I've read a few different things.

1. Reset the ECM
2. Replace the IMRC
3. Check for cracked vacuum hoses

Have any of you guys dealt with this issue? I see stuff everywhere about the 2.0s having this problem, but no write ups about my 3.2 =(

Are you out of Warranty? If so you could try and reset the IMRC but you will most likely end up having to replace it. But if you're still under warranty just take it in

No, I'm at 64k miles on a 2005. No warranty... we'll see next week or so what the real issue is. I don't have time to take it in this week.

I think we're in the same boat. It likely needs a new flap motor and ECM update.

I cleared this code and it hasn't come back, but I'm also noticing poor gas mileage.

I cleared it today after getting it read... few hours later and it's back on again. I'll update the post when I get the car fixed... I was told it's fine to drive for a bit anyways.

I'm guessing that the IMRC is probably the culprit. It affects airflow into the cylinders which would in theory affect your fuel mileage

I just received a letter in the mail about a warranty extension for the IMRC, FP Sensor (G410) and PCV Valve. I am in Canada. not sure if this applies to the US but I would think it does.

Check this thread first created regarding the cam follower...scroll near the bottom and you can see the discussion turns to the IMRC, etc.....someone posted a pic of the letter too.

Good luck.

We do have the extensions here but I don't think they apply to the 3.2 engine

What's an "IMRC"?

Intake Manifold Runner Controller.

The early versions of the controller were susceptible to failing, leaving the flaps wide open. The flaps are partially closed when idling if I recall so the air 'tumbles' in and mixes with the fuel better and for a cleaner burn. I drove around with mine stuck wide open for a few weeks while waiting for the replacement part (which itself was faulty too). I didn't see any change in mileage at that time.

Yeah, the letter applies to engine code BWT, which is the 2.0 engine... Looks like I'm on my own with this one.

Confirmed: Audi says it's covered for almost all other engine types except the 3.2L... FML

Bumping this thread again. Has anyone dealt with an IMRC replacement? I still haven't taken my car in yet... Help!

Can’t help you with the IMRC, but I was wondering what year your 3.2L is. I have an ’07 and asked the dealership about an ignition coil recall a week or so ago. We have been playing phone tag. Thanks!

I've got an 05.5. Going to be doing an IMRC DIY soon... the next trick is to order the part, and then find a VAG-COM cable.

Anyone have thoughts?

I got an 08 Quat 2.0T-**-I emailed a service mgr. that I dealt with before after I bought a lease return car and had hm do the PPI--I asked him about possible ignition coil replacement--he says my car is not covered. Does that sound kosher to everyone? I thought all 2.0T's would be affected?
Anyone else with an 08 2.0T get coils replaced for failure after the warranty period was over, I have 65K.

There is a separate code for each (2) bank. Since you are getting both codes you have a vacuum leak. I doubt both runners would die at the same time but anything is possible. Look around the front of the engine on the right side, by the dip stick. The line mounts on the dip stick tube but isn't supported very well. You'll see this vac line is probably broke. Possibly the dealer broke it when they changed the coil packs... Simple thing to do is find the line that is broke and sleeve it with some fuel line that has about the same ID as the OD of the vac line. You'll have to get the codes cleared after you fix this.
