Cross posted at AudiWorld. Got many replies that have convinced me the car needs to be looked at. The dealer is at a distance and Audi Roadside towed it there for me. Of course they are having difficulty reproducing the symptom. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding what might be going on I can pass on to them as a guide?:

Just passed 500 miles and starting to work a bit harder in my break-in (and yes, I've been to red-line, and I've used engine breaking from there several times a day, sometimes on downhills, etc.).
Is it me, or the transmission: To get to red-line and stay reasonably near the speed limit off freeway, I have to be in 2nd gear. The following description applies for downshifts from 4th to 3rd on the freeway.....
I get a sense of a "kerklunk" and hesitation on engagement when I downshift from 3rd while at around 3000-3500+/- rpms and capture 2nd gear at 4500-5000+/- rpms. I have tried adding throttle at the moment of shifting, and by accelerating in 3rd before shifting. What kinda works is if I lift throttle at shift and reapply it after engagement (as with an MT) but this is what iis supposed to be managed by the S-tronic's hardware/software.
I learned the upside of these tranny's in my VW R32 and I expected our beefier and higher tech S-tronic would outperform that car's DSG. That is why I chose it over the MT, and to be clear it was a difficult decision.
But this is not what I bargained for.
Is it that I'm being wrong in how I open the throttle/choose my shift point? Will it clear up once the tranny "breaks-in (this makes no sense to me)? Should I have the car looked at for a defect? Or, is this normal, and I have to get used to it?
If it is normal, I will be sorely disappointed and you will see me on these forums warning people that are on the fence away from the S-tronic.
I wait with baited breath for advice, though I fear condolences..
