There was just a thread about this.
Start the car, let it idle until the needle drops, and drive the car like a grandma until it reaches normal operating temps. DO NOT IDLE TO WARM THE CAR.

Haha. The OP needs one of those.
OP: dont listen to them. 1) the turbo doesn't need to "warm up" the oil does.
2) you waste a lot of fuel idling cold for 10 minutes
3) the faster you get up to temp the more efficient your car is
4) I could go on.
Do as Hugh said. Start the car, let it idle for 15 seconds until the idle drops down to ~800 rpms and then drive conservatively until it reaches temp. Also no need to idle after stopping the car either. Unless you've been pushing the turbo really hard up until to pulled into your driveway, you can just turn the car off.

I try! [:D]
Some of these turbo "myths" really bug me though. Just drive the car and don't worry about it. They design them so they'll withstand idiots (generally), so don't overthink it! I really think Mythbusters should do something with the idleing until warm thing.

That it does, and if you let it idle long enough on a daily basis you can get P2181 cooling system faults too

I've had this issue for quite some time but whenever it gets to be about low 30's to below 30 around here and I leave my car outside for more than a few hours, whenever I start the car, it idles at 800-900 RPM's. Then I let it run for about 20-30 seconds and I shut it off. Then I turn it back on and the needle idles at 1500RPMs [confused], then I wait another 20-30 seconds before it is truly "warmed" up and the needle drops down again to ~800 RPM's...wtf!?

so no one else in here has experienced this? Is this just normal for our cars because i've never had it on any of my other cars before...
