Hi, just bought an Audi a4 2.0ts Quattro 2006, it's perfect except that the gear nob is a bit twisted to the right as the picture is showing.

Can someone tell me how to twist the gear nob straight?

I've tried brute force, and that doesn't work. And i got a tip on an other site that i should check the plastic ring under the leather, so i did, but i found nothing wrong with it, and nothing to do with it. I don't think anything is broken since i cant twist the nob with force, how do i release the nob and then put it back in a straight position?

There should be some sort of clamp that holds the knob to the shifter assembly. You may have to cut it off and replace it. Basically get the clamp off, turn the knob where you want it and reinstall it

Thank you for the answer. I heard about that, and i just now lifted the leather all the way up and felt with my fingers, didn't feel anything feeling like a clamp, it felt like something else, and if that was the clamp, how should i get it off and on, can't see a thing?
Do you know what kind of clamp it is?

Anyone got any more info? There is very little info about this :(

Found some info, is it like a metal clamp that i can bend slightly and re-use or is it like a plastic clamp that i have to cut?

Edit:
From what i found out a normal hoseclamp should do fine?

I believe you have to loosen the screw that attaches the shifter to the linkage cable under the ashtray to rotate the nob straight. If I remember correctly, there is a groove on the shifter where the nob slides on, then there's the clamp so the nob doesn't pull off. So, taking off the clamp to twist the nob won't fix it. It's been a while since I installed my SS, so I could be wrong.

So i have to lift everything around the gear stick, remove the ashtray which is mounted with two screws and then under the ashtray i have to lose the screw, then cut the clamp, twist the nob, tithing the screw, put on a new clamp, done?
Is there only one screw under the ashtray? Can you tell me more specific?

Don't even take the nob off. See pic below. See the groove in in the shifter? No way to just rotate the nob.

Take out the ashtray, and look for the screw that attaches to the shifter (the black part in the pic above) to the shift cable and loosen screw. Align the nob straight and tighten the screw.

When I installed my Neuspeed SS 5 years ago, the nob was slightly cockeyed and I've been too lazy to align it straight.

Ok, i wont take the nob of. Just remove the ashtray and the trim around, lift the leather as far as possible and the trim. Cut the clamp, then lose the screw on the black part on the picture. Twist the nob into position, tithing the screw, put on a new clamp then done? I cant fuck anything up with my gearing or something like that, when i loses the screw and the cut the clamp? :p

Thanks for the answer btw

Edit: Call me stupid, but one thing i don't understand is, what differences dose loosing the screw do? I'sent the nob just connected to a plastic holster and the outside metal part in between that then are tied down with the clamp on the stock shifter? Or will the whole shift stick move when i'm loosing the screw? Do i really have to loose the screw on a stock shifter if i wont take the nob off, just twist it?

Ah, i see the groove on the stock shifter as well. So if i would take the nob of or try to twist it, it would just end up in the same place, i guess? But there is no risk to mess anything up when loosing the the screw on the big part of the shifter? Losing the screw will only make the gear stick movable so i can move the groove?
