Had the car for a week now and have put on about 500 miles. So far I am extremely happy with my choice to trade up to the B7.
The motor is terrific. Throttle response is much better than the 1.8t (this was always my biggest complaint about the old motor). It does not feel like a turbo motor. My only complaint so far is the rough idle. It feels like a diesel on occasion. I'll update more after the break in period is over.
The new 6 speed Tiptronic is great. Runs at 2500 @ 70 mph (500 less than old trans) and doesn't have the lag the old tip did.
The new steering is very interesting. At slow speeds it feels like a Buick, but at higher speeds it feels like my old Rabbit with no power assist. Very tight and responsive.
New suspension is an improvement, but is a little rougher than the old sport package ( not a complaint, just a fact).
The brakes are so much better it is almost funny. I can't believe I lived with the old brakes. They also seem to be producing less dust than the B6 brakes.
The interior is not changed much, but I do like the new cup holders ( I was so sick of the old cup launcher in the dash), the nav system is very easy to use and helpful, the Bose stereo sounds pretty good although I was a little irritated when I realised that iTunes songs are protected and won't transfer over to the SD card ( I hate iTunes), having the DRLs is nice as are the automatic lights, the new rear headrests are so much nicer in that they sit about six inches lower than the old ones. Quality seems as good as the old car.
I am still getting used to the new grill, but it is really starting to grow on me. I still like the looks of my old car better. The turning headlights are pretty cool and I like how all of the bulbs light up when the the headlights are on.
Overall, it is a really nice car. I got 32mpg on my second tank which I was very surprised by. It was almost all highway, though.
