View Full Version : Final Mod-Gloss black shadowline RS4 rep grill + hoen fogs

So I made another thread leading up to this but it was a total fail because it was badly titled and went way off topic.

On topic, I bought an Ebay RS4 style satin silver grill ($160). I then decided to wrap it in gloss black shadowline because I the matte silver wouldn't flow at all and I didn't like the matte black against gloss black paint. While doing this I also decided to swap out the stock fogs with Hoen H11 Xenon match bulbs.

As far as quality, I am very satisfied with the grill. Seems strong and doesn't look cheap at all, although it doesn't have the interchangeable filler plate but only a spot for a Euro plate. The fogs could be a little whiter IMO, almost seem to have a tiny blue-green look. The pics I posted do not do them justice at all. They came out looking just like the stocks in the pics.

Oh, I also blacked out the side markers, don't have a good pic though

EDIT: Does anyone know a good way to mount the Euro plate other than drilling? Or of any double sided adhesive that can be removed without leaving a ton of residue?

This will be my final mod until I get new rims in 18000 miles when the tires need replacing.

Thanks to everyone who has offered me advice in the last 9 months.

EDIT: Pics with euro plate further down

Finishes off the front end perfectly. Car is looking absolutely awesome. Are you going to throw the europlate back on?

Thanks guys! means a lot. And as for the Euro plate, I haven't decided. I like the plate but also really like the clean plain look. Did a quick Pshop of it with the plate

Also don't want to drill holes or risk putting double sided tape and leaving adhesive behind because I might need to have a front plate put on in the future, hopefully not.

Looks great! One question...

Were you able to wrap your grille trim with one piece or did you use several?

Looks great. I like it without the europlate.

Can you elaborate about how you blacked out your sidemarkers? I need to do this to mine soon (silver-them-out/ paint-match-them I guess)...

I ended up using 4 pieces. The top part can be a bit difficult because of all of the creases. It isn't noticeable though, at least from a fair distance.

I actually took some left over shadow line and put that over it and then cut the excess. Unfortunately that wouldn't work for silver. You could maybe paint the shadow line and do it? Don't know how it would work out

You can buy a gloss black rs4 grill (I think they refer to it as a hyper optic grill). Check ECS for it. I only shadowlined mine because the non Aline rs4 rep only comes in matte black and satin silver.

Looks good man[up] the grille does wonders. Love mine and I personally think no europlate.

May have to try out that shadowline..

Looks good man, I'm personally not a fan of the Euro plates but I'd recommend swapping out filler plates then. Having the empty gap for the plate is not flattering, either run one or get a new filler plate.

Completely changed the look of your car! Nicely done.

Thanks again for the nice comments guys. As for the filler, unfortunately it cannot be changed. it is built into the grill, probably why is costs half of a normal RS4 grill. Although it was the best option for a non s line version without having to modify an oem rs4 grill. I will run the euro plate if I can find a good way to mount it without having noticeable effects when I remove it (if I move and need a front license plate). Any ideas?

I really need some ideas on what you guys have done to mount the euro plate without drilling. 3M dbl sided tape? Anyone?

3m double sided tape is your best bet. A little goo gone and elbow grease and any remnants of it should come right off.

The only other non-drilling option is to use strong magnets.

thanks I was starting to think that would be the best solution. The gap isn't terrible but I think the plate could help

There's a DIY for the magnet idea.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll post some picks if/when I install the euro plate

And thanks for the link! Although I'm not sure I can make this work because the filler plate is built in. I might give it a shot though

New pics of fogs and euro plate, personally, I liked it without the plate unless you are close to it and the indent is noticably awkward.

Also funny, how I spend $200 on a new grill and most people asked me "what happened to your German plate?" Makes me wonder why I spend money on this.....Then I look at it and realize "oh ya thats why" haha

Thanks, I ended up just using some double sided mounting tape. Piece in each corner and one in the middle. Sticks on really well and should have too much trouble removing if I really need to. I didn't think the magnets would be worth it because there is no easy access to the back side of the filler because it is built in to the grill.

I have the two rolls of shadowline sitting in my room! Not sure when I can do it, getting a little cold now and won't be as easy to work with

Probably best to not even try that until it's warm out again. It will look bad-ass once you get it done though.

I don't think I will, especially since I have so little experience with the material. The only other option is to have it professionally installed, although that could be $150? (Just a guess)
