View Full Version : Tie rods?

I tried searching but couldn't really find an answer. I notice a noise/vibration that's continually getting worse. It happens when I go around a bend or an on or off ramp. It started months ago but is getting worse. I only remember it happening when going over 20 mph.

I would say tie rods or wheel bearings. Jack the car up and see how much slop is in the wheel. If you can move it back and forth it is more than likely your tie rods.

depending on your mileage, warranty may cover it. Look for a clank noise over bumps and alot of play in the wheel.

I'm not getting a noise over bumps. Just when turning at higher speeds.

Thanks for the input guys.

then its wheel bearing

Or a bent wheel. If its causing a vibration when turning, the inside of a rim may be bent.

I've switched wheels and it's still there. Doesn't matter if I turn right or left it's pretty consistent.

Does it sound like a humming?

I've had bad wheel bearings on other cars before but this doesn't sound like those did. It's more like a pulsating humming/vibration.

could it be your axles? it sounds like it to me...humming/bibratoin on turns right? did you see any grease while you were changing the rims? check your cv boots.

It's on right and left turns. I'll pull the wheels and see what I can see. Thanks.

If it were axles wouldn't it vibrate going straight as well as turning?

sounds strange but it could be your brakes.. do you have an upgraded system?

No upgraded brakes, although I kinda suspected my brakes before. I plan on doing the A8 upgrade. I have the carriers, just need to get the rest. I do have a slight vibration while braking but it's not real bad.
