I've seen a few Brilliant Red's with gold rims...however always powder coated never painted. I thought I'd give it a try and it just looks like garbage. What do you guys think? I wanted something different than black that I run throughout the summer. Suggestions other than this failed attempt?

Otherwise they are going back to plasti-dipped black next weekend.

I think it looks better then the washed out black look.

What color did you use? I think more of a bronze color would have turned out better.

I used the only external gold spray paint they had at lowes. It was Valspar

I also was thinking white, but how do they hold up on the winter grime? and I'm not a fan of hand cleaning rims....

I also got a flat this morning. I got a lot of stares. [:/]

I have to agree with EMAXX. The gold works but a bronze would look better.

I agree on Bronze. So much for my idea of doing bronze wheels on my brilliant red B6, haha.

Your mistake was going with a chrome gold, not a flat gold. It would look better with a flat/matt

Maybe Lowe's has a flat/matte finish clear coat you could spray over what you already have?

CorneliusRox

yeah, matte clear would fix this (if they dont ruin the finish when swapping your flat for a new tire)

I'd also redo your center caps. I'd mask them off and do them a different color. grey, black just to give it some contrast and not look so guilded. over all doesnt look too bad.

This trend starting happening 3 years ago on the subaru forums, I think it slowly found its way into the Audi community

Bronze is beast, I think that you can't attach a specific mod to a certain model or make, IMHO if it looks good... Work it!

looks pretty good IMO. a darker shade would look worse. maybe 2 shades darker, but not much more than that. Guess these haters will be hatin on me when summer rolls around. been my plan to run gold wheels since i began thinking about buying my b7 4 weeks ago.

I thought so too, but I'm guessing it looks good in pictars but not so much in person.

Red and Gold is a legit combo, but you need larger rims like 19s to pull it off IMO, the stock sixteens don't do it justice... but hey you never know til you try.

My bad, you're right - still though, i maintain that it seems too much tire for the gold look.

Maybe I'll look for something to spray over them. Its hard to tell in pictures, but its really shiny like a goddamn gold watch.

While painting them I was screwing around with the idea of the center caps. Either way they look kinda ridiculous.

You know, thats what my one VW friend said. Too much rubber and not enough rim.

They are just stock wheels. Regardless, I think they are best served silver, gunmetal, or black. If they were something worth looking at (at least 18" diameter), then I'd go with white or matte gold.

Gunmetal is still my first choice on a red car for a winter wheels........ like the TI wheels on a red car.... YUM

Looking at the pictures and looking at the car in person are two different views. Its too shiny and goddy.

Probably going to do gunmetal...something dark and something with a matte finish. I want to switch it up from my matte black vmr's I run in the summer..black gets boring [>_>]

x2 on that, gold isn't too bad, but looks better on Subaru's for some reason. With the gunmetal I don't think they'll look bad if they aren't cleaned on a regular basis for Winter rims. Compared to the gold might look off if not maintained.

As others have said gold looks fine, it's just that the particular one you've chose is too shiny and glossy. I think a matte gold, matte bronze, or gunmetal would be your best bet.
