View Full Version : I hate deer

On the way to work this morning had a deer run into the side of the car. I am not sure yet of all the damage, but it looks like at least 1 small dent (2-3" long) in the drivers door, and then a larger dent in the rear door (this one looks at least basket ball sized). The dent in the back door has cracked the paint along where the door meets the body, and the crack in the paint appears to be all the way down to the metal and 10-12" long.
I know that without decent pictures these are going to be guesses, but does anyone know approximately how much that may cost to fix? the front door dent may be able to be popped out, I will take another look later as I don't think it creased the metal, the back door definitely looks creased and with the paint cracked.
Crappy cell pic, the red outline is the approximate size of the dent, and the red line is where the paint is cracked.

Not the best start to the day/week.
You are very lucky... That's the least damage I've ever seen deer related. Even running over one would do way more damage then that.

Agreed, I regularly see cars with the whole front end smashed in from a deer. Thankfully this dumb one chose to run into the side of my car, which at least means I can still drive it around while figuring out how to repair it.

The metal on these doors is so thing its going to be hard to get it fixed and make it look 100%. Im not sure how picky you are on body work but I had large dent in my drivers door, paid top dollar to have it fixed but regardless still couldnt get it perfect. For the price that its going to take to do all the body work on the door, you can go to car-parts.com and find a used door in perfect condtion and have it hung.
This was the only solution for me that would make me happy. Good luck

Judging by the blood smear by my drivers door handle, and deer fur jammed between the door bumpers and the door I imagine the deer has quite the headache. Actually I am not even sure if it survived, last I saw it was laying in the road behind me. I pulled over a little further down the road where I could get to the side safely.
Currently trying to figure out the best course of action, I might head to a body shop at lunchtime to see if they can give me an estimate. My deductible is $500, and I am not sure if its worth going through insurance just looking at it. But, at the same time I am no expert.

FWIW I paid $700 shipped for a new door, paint in perfect condition...

Saw that video a while back, closest I have come to that is deer running across the trail in front of me and running beside me. Close encounter with a bear as well on the same trail.
Just got back from a local bodyshop, quick estimate of $1,840. I have the day off Friday so may take it to the dealer for an estimate there as well.

I feel your pain man. hit 2 doe's at the same time with my A4. Had to replace hood r/s fender and headlight and repaint front bumper cause paint was cracked (and clean the shit off my right side door). then same thing as you happened the night i bought my little brother a honda accord...deer suck!!! I went through insurance and its considered an "act of god" just paid the deductible and rates didn't go up. Best of luck man!

You should get some of that deerpee scent stuff and spray it on places that aren't your car.

I've only had one incident with a deer, it was a little short baby one. Tried to dart from the left side to the right while im having some fun on a twisty road back east in my Golf. I saw it and decided to aim for it as chances are it's gonna move and it only got as far as the yellow line and just stopped like an idiot, so i clipped it in the head with my passenger side mirror on my way around it. I slowed a little and looked back and it was shaking its head but walking away and it only cracked a tiny bit underneath on my mirror.
But that sucks, i'd try to find a used door to work with.

That vid was hillarious!
sorry to see this happening to your b7!! but be thankful that its quite small relative to what these creatures are capable of when in contact with moving cars!
