I just bought a 2004 TT coupe with 47k miles. It's a previous salvage title that had no mechanical damage only cosmetic. A small dealer bought it fixed it u and sold it for a great price and I had it inspected and they said it looked great (aside from mixed coolant). I got an oil change done and the shop recommended I do tune up (spark plugs, fuel and air filter) just to make sure its up to date on servicing. I called the dealer to check the maintenance history and it had its 35k mile maintenance done, but it was done in 2007. The guy who sold it to me said he hasn't done any maintenance on it aside form fixing it up. The question is should I have this work done now or was the shop just trying to sell me something? Also, the dealer said I should consider doing the timing belt eventhough mileage wise it's ok since its an '04 it could go any time. I know servicing on these cars is a bit expensive so I don't wanna do what I don't have to. I already bought new tires (Continental ExtremeContact DWS), oil change and coolant flush.

Also, the brakes have a high pitch squeak, is this an issue to investigate? The inspection said the brake pads were 50%.

Thanks!

Sounds like you definitely need to do some maintenance. My golden rule with used cars is unless they can provide documentation on paper that what they are saying has been done I assume it hasn't.

That being said, we have 40k mile service kits available below.

As for the the timing belt. You have some time left before that needs servicing- 70k is when you should consider changing it.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

So you think I should have spark plugs and filters replaced eventhough they were done at 35k miles since they were done in 2007? What do you think about the brakes? I've already done an oil change.
