So ECS sent me 45mm long bolts with the ecs 15mm spacer and bolt pack. The front wheels locked up, the rears are alright i think. Should they have sent me 43mm long bolts?

I believe stock is 27mm long. I'm no expert, but I think the rule of thumb is you can have it 3-5 mm shorter in length (ride at your own risk). That applies to stock lugs if adding spacers. With the 15mm added to the 27mm, that makes it 42mm you would have required. With that being said, not sure if you should have picked up the 40mm instead of the 43mm (not sure if 1 mm would make that much of a difference). Hopefully, someone else chimmes in.

Yes, 45mm is too long. 42mm would be ideal, but 41-43mm will work without any problems.

Interesting. We sold hundreds of these kits with 45mm bolts. Did you measure the length of the bolt to be sure its 45mm? Obviously if its causing an issue we'll make it right.

I agree that the rule of thumb is to add the size of the spacer to the wheel bolt for the correct size.

What wheels are you using?

My 2cents:

The stock bolts are only just long enough to engage fully into the hub.

The hub is only 6 threads wide, and you really want all 6 threads engaged to ensure they dont pull out.

As such you want any replacement bolts to be the same or longer than stock + spacer thickness, to ensure you still get full engagement.

Folk say 3mm spacers or even 5mm spacers are fine on the stock bolts, this is complete BS. With 3mm spacers, only 2/3rds of the metal thats supposed to be holding the wheel on is actually being used. With 5mm's only half the metal is being used. Just because you've done it and the wheels stayed on the car doesnt mean its safe.

45mm bolts should fit fine. Theres a good few mm of clearance behind the hub so bolts sticking out by 2mm shouldnt cause a problem whatsoever.

Just wanted to post a follow-up. I called ecs and they are going to send me 20 43mm bolts at no extra charge. Good costumer service that I thought was worth commending.

Funny that they has not had this issue before. They agreed that 45mm bolts should not be in that kit.

I'd just shave down those bolts, but props to ECS for sending you the others at no charge!
