So here's the dealio. 2001 A4 1.8QTM. I can drive it all day when it's cool out, and my temp gauge will hardly come up over a third of the way. On a warm day, it will sit dead center. Any thoughts?

Bad coolant temp sensor then, perhaps. Hmm.

Change both out. They are both really cheap.

Had the same problem, changed the thermostat and it stays right in the middle where it should. [up]

Not sure. I'll look. We carry some OE replacement parts. We carry Bosch parts, which is nice. AutoZone's brand is Duralast, which I'm not a fan of for stuff like brakes, alternators, etc, but you can get away with some stuff. I get a 20% off discount so that's cool.

I never have much luck with parts at AZ, so I always head over to NAPA myself, thats why I asked. Maybe its just local to me, they never have bosch parts unless its a special order. & 20%... ouch. Businesses are offering less and less benefits for employees

I can't bitch, it's better than nothing. We do sell 0W40 oil, so I buy my oil there. We have Bosch parts, as well as our brand. I just replace my two front CV shafts, which I bought from a different place. I don't trust DuraLast for shit like that. We have a thermostat of a different brand though, I can't remember what it is. But yeah, my discount is baller for shit like oil, filters, washes, waxes, polish, etc.

I would get the fail-safe thermostat and an OEM CTS.

same boat as you, changed out the thermostat when i did the headgasket, tb, water pump, not even a year later.... yup dead stuck open.. changed to temp sensor still there. I got my thermostat at napa and it failed and im pretty sure it was an oem part from napa. ill go to audi this time since on the 12v 2.8 this is a bitch to do! =-\
