Unless your luck is better than most I wouldn't risk having to do a TIP trans R&R twice over a few hundred dollars.

$399 + $70 shipping for an ebay TC..? You should seriously consider buying one from a reputable source, Sam at 517trans is the man, he knows the S4 trans inside and out and stands behind his products.
I have no affiliation, but i installed on this spring, i have no worries after talking to him.
You get what you pay for and 517 TC's are $100 more, and shipping is half as much.

I just picked up a silver avant s4 from san diego and as I driving it back 464 miles i get up to my driveway the p0741 torque converter code comes on!

I knew there wouldbe issues being that the odo says 187,x miles on it, let us know how the torque converter works out for you as I know mine is not too far off, Im going with a local stg 3 tip for mines and going with the 517 or level 10 TQ and valve body recal...

what were the symtoms before the TQ gave out for you

It just got sluggish,rpm was jumping, felt like I was driving w e-brake on. Had fluid right where trans and engine met.
I too am going stage 3 gonna buy frankenturbos. I have ev14 550 Injectors,racetec fmic, gonna do a nefmoto tune.
