My 99 audi a4 1.8t would not start the other day so I replaced the starter and the ignition switch. Still no start. Does not seem to be cranking. Can not find the park/neutral relay. Fuel pump and FP relay are working.

Battery? make sure your terminals are good and make sure you are getting a spark.

Figured it out. Found a ground that broke off near the starter. Now just solving two issues. the diesel sounding noise that walky talky is suggesting is the cam chain tensioner. Also an issue with it running stable. Hit the gas it sloly goes up and drops on its own even when giving it gas. Might be a bad fuel pump i am guessing.

It could also be a bad cat, or something plugging up the exhaust. That can cause dieseling and very erratic response.

Can't be a bad cat. Running it gutted with a o2 sensor spacer.

I am at the point of pulling my 1.8t and finding everything needed to swap to a 2.8 v6 because this 1,8t is looking unreliable. my main issue is i just rebuilt this motor and now it seems to have slung a rod bearing.
