Hey guys. I don't normally ask for too much help around here as searching pretty much covers it all. However, I don't see too much info on this. Below is the picture of smashed A/C lines, what parts will I need to get my A/C system up and running again...

I never got it repaired because the heat doesn't bother me for the few days it is warm up north. BUT, the girlfriend HATES her hair getting messed up with the windows down.. I would like to get the system up and running during my winter break. So any tips or pointers would be nice. I am sure walky will chime in with the more important details and the technical end (that would be appreciated)

Thanks in advance guys!

And a quick shot of my car.

At the least you will need new lines and a new receiver drier/accumulator. Was the compressor working before? What year is your vehicle?

Aeb 97 quattro manual.

Where did you find that diagram? That is exactly what i was looking for. yes, everything worked before I bottomed out.

Thank you. How expensive is that part? Have a part number?

You have two lines running at from the compressor. I crushed the one running from the compressor to the condenser and it has been a bitch to find a replacement. I even ordered the one for a passat AEB and it was different. I'm waiting for ECS(the only place I could find the replacement) to send me mine, its back-ordered or something. Make sure you order the right one. I hope mine is when I receive it.
Looks like there is a split in 1997 as well.

Oh and now I have and Evolution Thor skid plate I need to install to prevent this from happening again. I procrastinated in buying one in the past, and it would have paid for itself, had I had it before.

Why not just order through the dealer? Scrap yard maybe?

Why not just order through the dealer? Scrap yard maybe?

That would be your best bet. The diagram is from a program the dealer uses called ETKA. Can be found online, though not legally, if you know how to use google well enough.

I have my complete A/C system for sale. Lines, compressor, receiver, drier... everything. Let me know what you need in a PM and we can definitely work something out. It is all from a 98 a4. Should be the same.

FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER.

FIRST THINGS FIRST... tape up the destroyed lines. the more contaminants you can keep out of your lines the better.

1. Replace the lines. (make sure the purple rubber o-rings are on the new or used lines you buy. if not reuse the purple o-rings from your old lines.

2. After buttoning your lines back before charging the system back up, replace the filter/restrictor in the return line i believe.

3. Charge up system and while its hooked up to the machine let the ac run for 10 mins. After you run it for 10 mins, remove the FREON from the system. Replace that filter/restrictor again, then charge the system back up and you should be good to go.

I was in your predicament the other day, and i followed the process above. My lines were broken for a while so there were lots of contaminants. After i replaced the filter the first time, when we pulled it out after running it for 10 mins, it caught a lot of dirt and grime.

My ac now blows colder than stock. lol

Thanks jose @ eurotech. =)
