The timing belt job is on my to do list (80k now).
Any chance with the front of the car removed to get the turbos out?

On my 1.8T, I used the opportunity (front off) and put a FMIC in.
The IC needs to be upgraded. What FMIC size (lenghtxheightxthickness) can be fit to the Allroad without too much trouble?

pretty sure it will be more efficient to upgrade the SMIC's instead... There are numerous threads regarding this. BUT to answer your question, YES you can access the SMIC's with the front off and in "service position", but you CANNOT get to the turbos.

correct, i believe the turbo's are toward the rear of the engine down low, like my rs6.

This is the engine that you are talking about. It seems like a job to get to the turbos from the front. I am getting mine replace next week. This only because my mechanic said that one my turbos is leaking, an it would be a lot easier to get to the turbos from underneath/behind the engine.

Like you can see in the last picture, the turbos are almost impossible to get at with the motor in the car. I am still in the process of putting my motor and trans back in after changing the Torque converter, and i would be very impressed if someone could get to their turbos without pulling the trans or motor or both. That being said, i have read that it is possible. However, If you're good with a wrench, the motor can come out in a few hours. I would say realistically with a little mechanical inclination and without a lift, one could get the entire motor-trans assembly out in 6-8 hours. While you have it out, you might as well address all the leaking seals!

And FYI, those intercoolers are only held in by 3 plugs. The plugs are the size of "magic marker" and the third is the same just on the opposite plane. The top two go into holes in the support from the top and the bottom one presses in towards the rear of the car.
