'01 124,xxx miles without any issues whatsoever thus far...
tranny fluid flush at 114k miles.

last night I came home and just as I pulled down my street, while in D, revved up high and kicked back into gear...
...this was just as I got on the throttle after a rolling stop.

I parked the car and didn't drive it till just now...drove it for about 10 minutes w/o a problem and then it happened again...and again.
it's slipping "out of gear" at low speeds/gears (1, 2, and 3) and then catching. it was hard to even make it home without it doing it.

just seems weird this literally all of a sudden happened...without any signs/symptoms/issues.

any tips?
any ideas?
any advice on moving forward?

thanks guys

It has a broken trust bearing behind clutch B. The front clutch assembly slams back at sudden acceleration and the fluid line doesn't line up anymore. You need a rebuild.

I'm cringing myself. I just hit 78xxx and I'm waiting for my transmission to fail as well, because I know it's coming one day or another.

Just 78K?! You're just approaching the break in point...enjoy the many thousands of miles you have to go before worrying about that.
In the meantime, you can worry about leaking coolant pipe on your oil cooler and output shaft flange seal on your center differential leaking gear oil onto your left cat (it'll smell like burning rubber and ass) :)

Not to hi-jack this thread, I have that smell you described and saw that my left cat area has oil on it. What do I need to repair?

Thanks

Extremely common problem...I replaced mine for the 2nd time at about 90K miles (dealer did 1st replacement at 40K under CPO warranty).

Excellent candidate for a 6 speed swap.

Yeah, I had replaced mine twice now, No big deal, Worst part was removing the exhaust band bolts, that was made short order of by an angle grinder. Now I have to change two more on another '01 and a '99. Its what I do apparently. Well, what are friends for huh? (there tools and talent, that's what) Have fun
