theres like 4 people on this site with an a7, so you might have to read the owners manual

You just RTFM'd me. LOL. That being said, the same lights are used in the A6 too, maybe I should change the thread title.

It looks like the high beam to me?

Nope, high beam is integrated with the xenon. They are Bi-Xenon headlights. I also looked in the manual and saw nothing of mention regarding disecting the different lights in the assembly.

Yep, should be your high beam...all other Audi's (and most cars) with HID and halogen, use the HID for low beams...the lamp you point to is a halogen bulb...35 or 55 watt, depending on options you have. "Curve lighting" uses 55 watt.

Hyper M3 - My dad got an A7 in may and we both could not figure out what that light was used for so we asked the service dept. at both dealerships we use and they had no idea what it was used for and could not figure a way of turning the light on. They eventually said it was a dummy light that wasnt used for anything, but that it stupid because there is a bulb in the housing designated just for that light. So to answer your question...I've got no idea sorry lol and i gave up trying to figure it out in his car

It might be for the high beams but only when you flash them. I think there are some Audis that the driving high beams are integrated with the projector but since the xenons requires a couple of seconds to warm they have halogen reflectors that turn on when you flash your lights but only when the xenon are off. You might want to give it a try with the lights off try flashing your beams and see if it lights up.

Have never seen ANY Audi (or any other car) that "integrates" bright with HID low beams...not through the same projector lens.
The halogens turn on in addition to the low beam HID's (xenon projector). The headlight in the photo is a single HID + halogen headlight unit.
Turn on the key, turn on the brights, step out of the car and look!

I've done that and i had my dad sit in the car and flash the high beams and neither have turned that light on. These are not part of the high beam setup on the A7.

It might be the "city lights" light for Europe.

Us, A5/S5/RS5 guys have the same sort of thing inside our headlight housing and the only way to turn it on is through VCDS. It is unused here in the US.

Uh..no. Almost all Audis today have high beams integrated into the main projector lens. That's what bi-xenon lights are.

OP, ecrew is probably right.

I sit corrected :)

ETKA doesn't specify high. low, or "Bi" beams...just type bulb and wattage...and I don't have a Bi xenon to inspect.

Thanks for that info...that's what we're here for.

Cheers

flash to pass lights

I think we have a winner. Try no lights on at all and hit the flash to pass. My GLI has bi-xenons, and the center light only comes on when the hids are not on and you flash to pass.

It takes too long for the hids to come on and warm up in a flash to pass scenario. So Audi/VW uses halogens for flash to pass. Which is used more In Europe anyway.

...could this mystery be finally solved? Lol. I was thinking city lights as well. Kruat does have a good point about the flash to pass.

Fo Sho. Flash to pass here in the US will get you shot. Although I still do it [;)]

This light is used when you are parked at the side of the road at night. If you turn on your turn light in eather direction and leave the car the light will stay on in the front and back. So the cars driving on the road during the night can see a car parked there.

Bad explanation? :p

We have this light on the A5s aswell.

This must be it.
