had my windows tinted 35% and looks great. However it seems as though my installer cut the film short on one window (pic to follow). Called him out on it and he gave me some mumbo-jumbo about how the windows sits he wasnt able to get the tint inbetween the glass and the gasket. Followed by "others wont be able to tell"; but i can and it bothers me. Going to have him redo it because i am not happy with the work. Curious to see if others have experienced this with their installers/windows.

That is terrible and bs from what I see in the pic, just lack of experience or did it wrong and too lazy to fix and hope you wouldn't notice. If it truly was issue with the car it would be on both sides not just one window

Nope. Mine are tinted 20% and the tint covers the entire glass. Have him re-do it correctly.

Wow........take it back. I do however have the annoying glare in the rear window.

Same here - I cant see the edge of the tint anywhere on the glass.

That's absolutely not right. Btw did you bag/cover your amp? Going in for tint tomorrow, nervous about the water shorting the amp situation.

My installer moved the amp. He does a lot of work for different Audi dealers and said he learned the hard way the first time he did the S4.
Definitely make sure your installer knows about it.

Wow that's such a crap job. My installer removed all the door panels to insure he got all the glass.
I'd make sure you leave a negative review on yelp and any local boards too.

Noob question. Where's the amp?

Anyway. This guys wants to charge me $300 to tint my S4. The guy has worked on Audis for 25 years and says the A4/S4 is a pain to do well, especially the back window.

Is he BS'ing me?

The amp is on the left side of the trunk you just open that panel to get to it. Cover it with a bag and towels, that is what I'm going to do. Do not play your radio obviously when its in that state.

What film is he using? I've heard removing the rear brake light from the rear window is a bit tricky, but haven't heard that the car itself is difficult to tint. I'm going to be paying less than $200 for 3M Colorstable tint.

TOTAL BS as others have said, mine looks perfect, you cannot see any edges of tint, though the defroster grid on the rear window is pretty thick and it's near impossible to get a tight seal on those lines, but still no bubbles.

This is for installer who are inept and use a TON of water - it will funnel down the C-pillar and pools on the amp, frying it. Search the forums, many had this issue with lesser tint installers.

That is exactly what he said that removing the brake light is a PITA and it might take him an extra hour to get it just perfect, but $300? Damn.

I didn't do anything with the amp when I got my windows tinted. I knew of the problem, but I took the risk anyway - partially because I forgot to cover it. But, whatever, everything worked out fine. However, in retrospect, I guess it was a bit foolhardy of me...

An hour, no it is more like 10 minutes, I have not gotten mine done yet, but my installer said you have to be very CAREFUL, but the difficulty of getting it off and on is not hard and shouldnt take more than 10-15 minutes. $300 for some tint is the right price, what tint are you getting that is whats important to determine price.

Run away, and cut your losses if you need to. I wouldn't let that person touch my car again, it is not for practicing on.

If you decide to go elsewhere, try Tint King in Billerica, MA

I paid about $300 for my tint job, and paid almost the same back in 2005 when I did my B6. $250-300 seems to be the range for reputable shops in my area. And I agree with the poster who says you should not screw with that person again, although I suppose if you've dumped that much money into a job already, it probably wouldn't hurt to go back to him and tell him to fix his shit.

Mine has no gaps and would not accept that. He obviously made a mistake and wanted to see if he could let it slip.
