Bought a 2001 Audi A6 2.7T yesterday. On the drive home found a few problem, and would like some input. Ive used the search, but i get a bunch of answers and they are not the same situations.
1. Both front windows roll down fine, but when trying to roll them back up, they start to slow down, eventually stop and i watch my volt gauge start to decrease, and then they end up going back down a few inches. I dont know if its the back windows as well as i didnt feel like trying them out since it was so hard to manually put the front 2 windows up.
2. When i go to use the turn signals, they just stay lit, they do not blink at all. Hazards still work.
3. I have the "triangle with a circle around it" dash light on. I believe that is the ESC light? I also have my abs light on as well, and the check brakes thing on in the information panel. Now i think i read that the ESC will come on if there is something wrong with the brakes? So im thinking i just have to replace an ABS sensor and i should get rid of all three lights? please correct me if im wrong.
4. my fob doesn't work. it didn't come with batteries so i went and bought new ones and still nothing. im guessing its because it hasn't had batteries in it for awhile that it needs to be reprogramed?
I hope thats all for now. going to do some more driving and see if i notice anything else. I bought the car cheap so i realized it wasnt going to be perfect and it would need some work. So far the engine and trans are fine, shifts smooth, idles, runs, and drives amazing.
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

After replacing the batteries in the fob, you need to program it.
Here's how to program the fob... http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/428047-How-to-program-your-Audi-flip-key-fob.

thanks for the reply, but that thread states i have to have at least two keys:
1. Take a key (valet key works best, put it into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position, so the dashboard lights come on.
2. Roll down the driver's side window (not required, but a good idea in case there's a problem).
3. Exit the car and close the door.
4. With a second key, physically lock the doors by turning the key clockwise (don't use a remote).
5. Take the first remote to be programmed, press the unlock button. The lights will flash once.
6. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. That first transmitter is now programmed.
I currently only have one key in total for my A6.

Yikes! It's always good to have a backup key in case you lose a key. If you don't have a second key and you lose your key, you'll have to get your car towed to an Audi dealer to get a second made and then adapted to the immobilizer. I think it's important to have a second key. I wanted two keys because the closest Audi dealer to me is more than 100km away!
That being said, Audi keys aren't cheap. The Audi dealer quoted me $75 to get a key blade cut and then $65 to get it programmed. That's for the plastic wallet key. The valet key is $170 + $65 and the full key fob is $250 + $65.

alright after further inspection, when the abs light somes on, the brake light (like when you pull the parking brake) flashes. dont know if they means anything different.
Also, my key itself works, the fob just wont unlock, lock, or pop the trunk. is there a way i can do it without having 2 keys?
alright did a bunch more searching and found a way to program it myself. just saved myself $60. now on to the other problems.....
anyone else have any clue about anything else wrong with my car? thanks for the help so far.

The front windows need new plastic guides. There are sever write ups on this. They cost around $6.00 each. No big deal.
The Turn signal problem is either 1) burnt/wrong light bulbs installed somewhere, or 2) a faulty flasher unit located behind the emergency flasher button.
The Brakes sound like a faulty ABS wheel speed sensor, faulty module or low fluid. You can obviously check the fluid yourself. The other 2 problems are better diagnosed with a scan tool. The wheelspeed sensor would not necessarily report a fault until you reach 18mph so if the light comes on after moving, it is a sensor not sending signal back. If the module is faulty, it will remain on after initializing.
You can order a valet key already cut for your car from the dealer for around $50.00 This will give you a spare and allow you to program the other.

I don't think so. The first key turns the car 'on'. The second key in the door lock puts the system into 'programming mode'.
Where I live I can get an authentic Huf key blade and have it cut for $40. If you can find a locksmith to do that, use the key blade attached to a pair of locking pliers to turn the car on or turn it in the door lock.
It will cost you at least that to get your key fob working - assuming it still works.
EDIT: this is the Huf key blade...

i actually got my fob working. all i did was manually lock the drivers door, push the unlock on the fob, manually unlock it, then pushed the unlock again and it works now. i found a write up for it either on here or audiworld.
i just bought a new rear turn signal as mine was out, so ill replace that and see, if not where can i get a relay? i tried autozone but no luck there.
the abs light only comes on after i start moving, so hopefully its the wheel sensor as i dont wanna spend $300 to rebuild my abs control hahaha.
the esc light is always on.... but hopefully after i order the wheel speed sensor it goes out? read somewhere they relate to each other and could be tripped for the same problem.
thank god about the windows. i was looking at motors and such and they were a little pricey, but ill just order the plastic guides and see if that helps.
does anyone know where i can cough "find" cough a repair manual for a 2001 Audi A6 2.7TQ?
thanks for all the help so far! now i just gotta order the parts and tear the beast apart.

Good answers on most of those so far :) the triangle with the circle around it is indeed the ESP light and is often triggered by (like you said) by wheel speed sensors, i had the same problem with my 01 a6 2.7tq and found out simply by removing the wheels that the sensor clip was broken and the ziptie some hack put on there was insufficient, before spending big money on the parts, do a visual check of these sensors, as well as ride height sensors (2 - 4 of them?)
also just came to me....make sure all 4 tires are the same size :P a good scan tool might be able to tell you specifically which sensor is acting a fool, although probly will only come up with "man. specific codes" :/
good luck
also just thought of one more thing, the front brakes have pad wear indicators - could cause a light :P
