View Full Version : What would you do... if you only had your S4 for ONE more day...

Due to professional reasons i have to make 200km's a day for work.
I spend like 250-300 euro's a week on gas. That is 1200 euro a month. You should know, the average person in Belgium earns about 1300 euro a month after taxes.
The owner of the local gas station LOVES me. [facepalm]
Long story short, i decided to sell the S4 and get myself a Mercedes GLK with the AMG pack diesel as my daily driver.
Why the GLK? Well i need a 4 door, 4 matic (cause i visit austria quite often to go skiing and i need something capable of doing snowy mountains), something comfortable, something relatively inexpensive, and it had to be a diesel, and it needs to be quick enough. (7,2 seconds for a small SUV is not bad in my book) (+plus it needed to be a Benz cause i am friends with the manager and let's say he was able to get me an offer i couldn't refuse :D)
I'm so sad to see the S4 leave..One of the best cars i ever had. Not going to miss the speed and stuff cause i have alot of toys here to make up for that (kawasaki ninja being one of them..) but i always seem to get attached to my cars and have a hard time selling them. [:(]
So this is my last day with the S4.. what would you do?

I would move closer to work and keep the S4. Seriously 200km? You are wasting your life inside the car. Not that beign inside isnt fun usually, but not on the highway.
Otherwise id take it to a track and thrash it.

It's not just work, it's my little brothers who play soccer at a national level, so i travel across belgium constantly to bring them to training, etc..

Actually...i did the autobahn a few weeks ago [:D]. From one side of Germany all the way to the other.
The reason i think i will miss this car so much, is because it makes me feel invincible on the road.

Nurburgring!
Seriously, though, I'd probably just buy an economical beater to use as a daily driver and keep the S4. I contemplated doing just that when I was commuting 110mi round trip every day before I got my car and was going to look at spending 4k or so on a used civic or something and just run it until it died. Luckily since then I started working from home a significant amount so it wasn't necessary.

The 'beater', in my case, would be the GLK. It was just too crazy to keep spending 15 000 euro's a year on gas when i can do the same with 1/3th of the cost. That is like ALOT of money to spend on other things...
+ i was able to get a very nice price for my S4.
I still have 2 other cars and a motorcycle to play around with anyway..

At a very conservative 20 miles/gal. that's 31 gallons/week. The real price of gasoline is somewhere around $2.00/gal, the rest is taxes. Your government is making it impossible for you to own the car you want, time for a revolution. Either that or move to Venezuela, gas is $.12/gal. there, WOOT!!!

I agree with the Nurburgring. If I had one day, and was as close as you, I would go do 10-12 laps. From a pure driving standpoint, it can't be beat. It was one of the best driving experiences of my life, and it easily beats flogging your car on the autobahn....

How do you expect him to let the car go after the amount of fun he would have on the Nurburgring?! ;-)

Haha. Very true, but I could probably do enough damage in 10+ laps that I would HAVE to get rid of the car. The last time I did laps, I did 8 is a Renault Clio Club Sport. It was fun, but I can't imagine doing them in my S4. I wish there was a way. I would do it in a heartbeat....

Make sure your little brothers understand the sacrifices you're making for them and plant a seed in their minds that they should pay you back once they go pro. Inception!

Haha nice replies. I allready did the green hell, and yes it was alot of fun.
Yup it's the government here that makes owning a sportscar nearly impossible. They even want to double the taxes on sportscars next year (you should know that right now i have to pay 4800 euro for every car that has over 200hp) (i own 3 cars with over 200 hp each) so next year i would have to pay nearly 10 000 euro euro just on taxes for 1 car! and this is without insurance-costs and all that!
Our government is the biggest criminal of all.
But it's all good, cause for my little brothers i would sell every single car if i had to, so it's ok.
Anyway, i will sure miss the S4 crowd. I didn't post much, but i read every single post that went through this forum.

Over-regulation at its finest. Dont you just love these career politicians who have never actually had to live in the real world? They think THEY know what is best for YOU..

in what planet will a GLK get better gas mileage than an S4? 200km is what, 125 miles roughly? If its a long trip on lots of highway there's no reason why you shouldn't be averaging 25 MPG. that's 5 gallons of gas per day 25 gallons of gas per week and 100 gallons of gas per month. How much does gas cost per gallon over there? $6.00 per gallon? ok so you should be spending $600 per month. According to my calculations that is 400 euros not 12000 euros. even in crazy belgian maths theres no way you are not exaggerating.

Well.. i graduated cum laude in finances but i guess your math is better than mine.
I average 11 liters/100km with my S4.
I average 6-7 liters/100km with the GLK
Diesel (for the GLK) costs me 1.4€ for every liter i tank.
Super 98(for the S4) costs me 1.9€ for every liter i tank.
Now you do the math again, genius.

Drive the S4 completely naked.
This is by far the most reasonable and rational suggestion in this thread. It really is the one thing you would never do in your car unless it was the last time you drove it lol.
