I have a new 2012 S4 that is phantom black and wanted black wheels to match, i was considering Hartman and BBS but don't want to spend money on new wheels cause right now I need a Strat Intake. I was wondering if it would be possible to powder coat the stock wheels black. Also if anyone else has done this, can you post pictures? Thank you!

What does that mean and will it effect the wheel

Plasti-dipping is actually spraying the wheels with a "spray-on" plastic . I would be concerned about he possibility of over-heating that material. Do a search and you'll see guys use the stuff for all kinds of quick colour changes.

+1...
there are numerous posts on this forum..not sure what the long term effects are on the wheels with all the heat, but i know short term you can peal the coating right off. im sure someone that has done this will chime in sooner or later..

Plasti dipping them in the long term is the same as short. It peels right off, even after extremely hot summers this stuff will peel right off. Its a viable option if you would like to see how they would look with a semi-matte finish, and you can simply peel them off after you are done if you don't like them. There are a number of guys in the B5 and B6 forums who have their wheels plasti dipped. There is even a B7 S4 guy (Ibis white) who did his entire car for testing purposes but then decided to keep it on for a bit!
Pretty cool stuff, it comes in the spray and dip versions and can be found at your local hardware store (Home depot, lowes) in the canned paint section!

Fonzie has plasti-dipped his entire S4 twice. Once matte black, and once matte white. He has also plasti dipped his wheels matte black, with no ill effects after a couple months.
Plastidip is a cost effective, non-permanent, multi-color, DIY option for you.
Do it!

This is my car here. I had my wheels powder coated for $90 each. Also you have to have the tires taken off and put back on and balanced.

@2010S4 I saw your car and loved it the only thing is it cost me 300 to powder coat each wheel but you got ripped off (no offense) by buying the black optic grille. You could just plasti-dip it for 10$ lol. @StratJohn I dont want to plasti-dip my wheels because its Matte black, and i also live in nj and the plast dip will probably wear out but do you have any tips when plasti-dipping the front grille.

Nice to see another Audi driver here in the "Tax Me" state...Those coated black wheels are cool nice link. I'm thinking about trading for an S5 soon and those 5 spoke 19 inch audi wheels are a nice upgrade...They only charge $200 extra for the wheels on the sticker.

Are you saying $300 PER wheel? I hope not!! I kindly disagree with you about the Plasti-dip! It's a plastic, rubber like material that can peel off, etc. I would MUCH rather have a professional paint job done - especially on a nice car like an Audi! I would leave the cheap-looking plasti-dipping for old sh1t cars.

HA!! Why yes, they absolutely need to change to state motto from "The Good Life," to the, "Please Bend Over This Will Only Take a Second," state! I actually deal with the State on RFPs and the State ALWAYS takes the lowest bid regardless! 80% of the time the same RFP gets re-released because the CHEAP bidder F's up! Talk about a waste of resources, time, money, etc!!! So I call them and the guy actually says to me, it's state law to take the cheapest bid and "I'm all for it if it means keeping our taxes low." WHAT THE F??!! I wanted to laugh in his face and call him about but that would burn any chance of future business! What a fregin joke!!! Who's running things in Lincoln???
Anyway, no thread hi-jack here! YES, the 19" "Peeler," wheels are sweet! I can't believe I'm already sick of my B8/A4 after just one year! I SO want a S4 or the 2012 A6 (basically an S4 but bigger!) - with those nice wheels! What dealer would you work with for your trade?
