Hey guys,
After searching for an hour with no luck I'm hoping somebody can shine some light on this issue I'm having with my iPod and MMI...
After I shut the car off and start it up again it will every so often (maybe every 3 times) reset my ipod the the first playlist and the fist song of that playlist instead of where I left off. It doesn't really matter the length of time. Sometimes I'll go into the grocery store for 10 minutes and it will do it or sometimes it will happen after the car sits over night. And visa versa, there's no definitive time scenario where it happens predominately.
Like I said sometimes I'll turn the car on and it will start back up where I left off and sometimes the MMI will reset the iPod and start from the very first song of the first playlist.
I don't have my iPod on shuffle or mix. I have tried this on two different iPods just to verify that I have an issue and not just a bad iPod. Both iPods are updated to the latest software. The iPod I currently use is the latest generation iPod Classic, 160gb. The second iPod is a old iPhone 3GS that I just use as an iPod (because I'm a nerd who had to have iPhone 4.)
I would be extremely grateful for any help on this.
Thanks in advance!
Happens to me only when unplugging my ipod and replugging it back in and if I plug it back in after I already turn my car on and leave the headphones in it will continue from where I was listening to it but if I put it in and the MMI is on radio and then switch to media it will go to first playlist and first song. Sucks but I am still figuring out how to make it work so I can explain to the forum how we can avoid this. Im pretty sure this happens to all of us.

The same thing happens to me and it pisses me off. Also when I want to shuffle I have to set it on "mix" everytime I start my car and it's annoying. The car should have some type of memory for your iPod like my g37 did. That's the only thing about my car that I'm not too happy about.

Mine operates the same as BaLLZ. tgoss, you may want to reset your iPod to rule out that being the issue.

Yeah the ipod MMI interface is pretty lacking. I have a Dension Ice link on my R32 that I much prefer; it lets you play with the ipod like you always would: leave it on shuffle, turn off the ignition and it pauses, turn your car back on and it just picks up where you left off. One thing I REALLY miss is the ability to turn off shuffle in a playlist and just listen to the rest of the album, or whatever the next song would be on the playlist. Instead "mix" seems to just jumble the songs each time you hit it and there's no way to UNmix the songs. Turning off mix doesn't seem to do anything but give you the opportunity to re-shuffle when you turn it back on.
I guess that's how the flash memory ipods/iphones handle it too these days. They streamline the interface so much they lose all the functionality I'm used to. Weak.

Reset and restored the iPod today.. Issue still persists. Only annoying thing about this car at the moment.

Mine resets a lot when I leave it on a playlist I'm playing, and does it less often when I'm just playing "artists" not in a playlist. It's annoying because when it does reset, it defaults to my first playlist. Which is my "hard rock" playlist. Which starts with some crazy From Autumn to Ashes song. And I'm not always in the mood for that haha
