I just traded in my 08 STI for a 2012 S4 Phantom Black pearl effect with Black/Magma leather, 19's, Sport diff, ect, ect... Already picked up a few small things: APR exhaust, Vag-com, dipstick, supercharger badges, black front licence filler plate, Underseat Storage Bin Kit, 15% tint. Soon will be adding APR stage 2 and pulley kit, wheels or powder coating my 19's, swaybars, black grille, few other things. So far I love the S4 and I'm not missing my Subie yet. I'm finding lots of good info here. So just wanted to say Hey. [:D]

I so love the look of magma. If they offered magma alcantara I'd have snapped it up in a heartbeat.

I did the same thing you did, had a 2005 STi that I purchased new and modded. I do miss mine from time to time, but cars sure have come a long way since '05.

Nice!!!!!!! Audis are much more refined and are better daily driver than the Subie. So did you get the extended warranty? I know with my Subie it is not going to break unless I do something stupid. With my Audi I am always worried.

Nice upgrade! My last car was also an 08 STI. It was certainly fun, but nothing like the S4 IMO. The one thing I personally do miss though is the nice little "turbo" button :)

In his list of things he already picked up, he mentioned the black filler plate.

niiice! i too am a subie convert, went from a 02 wrx to a 06 lgt to my 11 s4. It seems like a natural progression for sub drivers to go Audi. Are you, too, feeling the pain of aftermarket parts being a LOT pricier on German cars? haha

Car looks great. Why powder coat those wheels though? They look great stock on the S4, just save for a new set of wheels down the road.

For me the Subaru community is more close knit, and the vendors have their stuff together a heck of a lot better than the Audi side. But I do love the car!

I agree. I was thinking of taking the powdercoat route, but then found out quickly that its pricer than you would think. Depends on the color you would powder them, and then the wheels have to be dismounted and then remounted again. Save up for some aftermarkets!

I never understood that. Does it look different then the stock one, just to dress up the engine bay?

i come from a mitsubishi evo owner and obviously there's quite a lot of differences, lol. but congrads budd.

What's more sad is that we don't get a dipstick and have to go 'aftermarket'... So I have it listed as a mod LOL

Well they do look quite different. The aftermarket one is very long and can actually check the oil for you.
Go pull out your stock ones... the stick is missing ;)

I too came from the land of the EVO. I had a nasty fight with some black ice a few years back with my Evo 8 MR R.I.P but Im very happy with the S4. Good choice!!!!!!!!!

Congrats, you got the right tranny too.
You and your kindern will be much safer
in the s4.
Agreed, fabulous interior!
In my book Evo would rule over STi had
they put a 6th gear on the manny.

I never understood that. Does it look different then the stock one, just to dress up the engine bay?As Un1k points out the B8 S4 doesn't come with a dipstick. However, at least it has a place for one unlike some other German cars from Bavaria.
Congrats! I have the same interior but Im your Bizarro brother with the Ibis exterior lol. You really dont need to get new wheels with a nice drop... Save the wheel money and but the titanium front grill and H&R sports or some coilovers. Trust me you will thanks me afterwards.

It's like $35 a piece to get the powdercoat done at the shop by me and I can pull my tires off at my buddies shop. So until I find the wheels I want its a good option.
is there a step-by-step installation guide for the underseat storage bins?
IDK but You wont need it. Unbolt your seats and flip them back. From there you can see where everything goes.
No offense to the OP, but I chuckle every time I see someone list a dipstick as a mod.
If I listed it as a "mod" then I could understand your comment. But I didn't. I only said I bought one. [;)]

In my S4 there is only a plug in the dipstick tube. I like to keep an eye on my oil so I bought the dipstick.

he-he, looks just like my car :)
You'll have to break-in the exhaust, it'll sound a bit different after a few K miles. I really like APR btw - it's quiet overall, but opens up nicely when you step on the gas. Sets off alarms in cars on a covered parking lot at my work daily :)

Yeah I've had a bunch also. 2.5RS, 04 STI, fully built 00 GF8 STI, 08 STI and I got the wife an 09 WRX.
The 00 GF8 STI was my pride and joy. All built by me. Including full swap (6sp, STI engine, Brembos, ect) and body work. Only thing I didnt do was the paint.

It's the natural maturation process. I, too, had an 2000 2.5RS with numerous mods (short of an engine swap..nice work!) and it was the most fun to drive car I've had. Until now.

I Have to agree. I heard many APR exhausts in person, and while they are the forerunner in all goodies for our car... The exhaust is not made by them and it shows.
Miltek is the best sounding exhaust with AWE right on par (long fab time though)

did you guys install the exhaust yourself? if so, how long did it take and how easy? It seems very straightforward.

I did not since I do not have a lift and had never installed one before. On the other hand, I watched the entire install and it is VERY straightforward.... as long as you have some mechanical abilities!

+1... I am sure I could have done it in the driveway on jack stands, but it would have taken 3X the time the muffler shop with a lift completed it in. Worth every penny of the $50.

only took him 1/2 hour, they charge $90 an hour + $10 tip.
I am just north of SF, If you don't mind an hour drive I can give you the name of the shop. They do great work, only shop I would trust my Nova with.

I've had enough of the loud exhausts. If I want to hear a loud exhaust I drive my Taco with headers, DTpipe Y-pipe and catless. I will be happy with the APR. [:D]

car is looking great! I was going awe 100% but this thread and the long fab time is making consider APR.
I also traded in my 06 STI (stg 2) for my '10 S4. I had loud with the STI and I was looking for an understated exhaust for the S4. Now I wish I had a chance to run them against each other as S4 feels faster than I expected, but not sure if it's faster than my STI.
