So I finally got around to wrapping my trim in suede. I really don't mind the wood trim my car had inside of it, but I hated looking at all the little cracks it had. It's a very easy DIY, and is easily reversible. I got all the trim out and covered it lightly with masking tape and sprayed both the trim covered by tape, and the suede. I used 3M super 77 to hold it down. Anywho, I like it a lot and think it looks great [:D] and for under $15 it's very cheap too. Comments are welcome.
Oh.
Can't forget some pics [:D]

I actually really like that. I've never been a fan of the wood either.

Yeah I like it a lot too. I've seen a few different Audie have it done on the forums, but never have seen it in person. I'd really like to get a carbon fiber set, but I don't see the point in spending $600+ on a car that's bone stock and automatic. LOL. Anyways, for the price you can't beat it.
Ill get better pics when I come back from vacation [up] I took these before I left yesterday on my iPhone, so they're not great. Yet. Haha

Looks great!!
I would have never though of putting masking tape of the the trim just in case you didn't like it. Did you buy the material locally or online?

Localy at JoAnn fabrics. It's very cheap, but looks very good. I bought a yard for like 10 bucks, and have enough to do another set. They have a variety of colors to choose from also

hmm.. looks like i'm going to JoAnn fabrics one of these days. i don't like the wood look either and would much rather have it wrapped in suede. post back in a few weeks to let us know how it holds up to regular wear/tear?
cheers

As long as you're not a slob and eat messy foods in your car, I hear this stuff holds up quite well. The only part I ever really hear complaints about is the shifter surround getting dirty. I don't let anyone eat in my car, and clean it regularly so I'm sure it will hold up well.[:p] If not I have plenty left over to redo it [evilsmile]

wow that's cheap. I did the textured wood trim "a la FrankA6" but some parts are starting to wrinkle, I guess do to the extreme heat. So I'm debating on what to do.
Since you're using suede I know it's a tight fit around the corners for certain parts of the trim. Where you able to get the trims flush to the moldings? Did you wrap the suede all the way towards he the back area?

Random note... I wrapped my trim in cf fabric and some of my pieces started to wrinkle as well. I pulled that piece off, peeled back the material slightly, reapplied the adhesive, stuck the trim back on, and all my pieces have been fine ever since. Seems like the initial glue was enough to get the fabric on there (for the most part). Then the second application of glue really got it on there good.
And yes, thats my question as well. I originally was going to wrap my trim in authentic alcantara, but that stuff is way too thick and would cause the trim to bulge. How flush does your trim sit with this stuff? Maybe take a pic of one of your door cards on a slight angle.

Believe it or not, it doesn't seem to buldge at all. The fabric is very thin, so that may be why. I mean, maybe it came out a mm or 2, but it's nothing noticeable. And yes, I did wrap it to the backside of the trim pieces
I did the same thing on my a6 before I switched up to dinoc. I made mine reversible by superglue-ing the fabric to the back side of the trim. I liked the look, but it got dirty *really* quickly.
As far as fitment goes, if I were to wrap my panels again, I would take the left and right edges of each panel to a belt sander to make them fit properly. The top and bottom generally didn't bulge.

Did it get dirty on all the pieces? Or was it just the shift surround piece? It looked really nice in your car, especially with the black interior [up]
