Not a noob but my brother has a 97 a4 1.8t. When we bought it the guy said it was completely stock and the car felt like it was. We just installed a boost gauge and he consistently hitting 12psi and fades to 8psi st red line. Isn't stock boost like 7-8psi? I remember my 02 gti being like 8-10psi but it had full 3" exhaust. it also spiked at 15psi a few times. I don't have my vag com here as I'm visiting so I can't log.

Stock boost is 7 psi, and 11psi for the 01. Best bet is to actually wait to log it to see your actual vs requested and figure things out from there.

Yeah I just don't know when that will be. What if the turbo was replaced by a ko3s? I think he said the turbo was replaced with a lower mileage one. I don't think that would change the boost though.

are you asking a question or stating a "thank you"?

if the former, it was already stated twice in the thread

Having a k03s won't change how many pounds of pressure the turbo will make. Only difference in the turbos is the compressor wheel, and that is not what really made the difference with the 7psi and 11psi. That was caused purely by the ECU mapping, set by the factory. In a nutshell, k03 or k03s won't matter. I would look into other variables.

I am assuming you guys have a boost gauge installed, so what is vacuum at idle and while car is in motion (no throttle)? Maybe you guys do have a tune on the vehilcle, and a boost leak where you won't see what the tune should really be seeing (hence, peaking at 12psi)? Or maybe your boost gauge is just not accurate?

i just got my turbo replaced on my 00 1.8t, and when i drove it back home, i was getting 5psi. i'm gonna drive it on the highway right now and see. i'm not sure if thats about accurate or my mechanic installed my forge splitter valve backwards. let me know what you guys think
