I bought my b7 a4 2.0t 6mt quattro a little over a month and a half ago now... It came with all the records up untill about 15k before I bought it (got it with 70k miles on it, and the audi dealer provided all service records up untill 55k, then nothing after that) I got a carfax report, but it says nothing about a turbo replacement or anything along those lines at all. So when I was putting my 034 inlet hose in a few weeks ago, I noticed that there was some sharpie writing on the turbo itself...and I got to thinking that there is a very low possibility that the audi assembly line uses a sharpie to label the turbo. Do you guys think it may have been replaced within the last 15k miles, or is it normal to have writing like this on the turbo? I did a search but didnt come up with anything. Thanks in advance

Could possibly be a used turbo put into yours. Even if that is the case why worry since the original one was probably dead anyways. New or used its better than a dead one. :-)

You are probably right, maybe it came out of a wrecked car or something, I doubt a new one would have the writing on it. And yes you right, a used one is better than a dead one for sure lol thanks for your input guys

I would definitely say it has been replaced. Most parts recycling places put numbers on all used parts they sell. Either way as long as it works, no shaft play, or doesn't burn oil I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Thanks jason, ill keep an eye on the oil level and also for any slop that might develop. I figured it was replaced when I noticed the writing, but I wish there was some sort of record of it so I had a better idea of how old it might be and when to expect the inevitable turbo fairy. I guess there's no reason to worry about it, she's definitely coming at some point, just have no idea when now lol. Thanks again for the help fellas

Hey man I found this site along with the other pictures of the turbines I sent you.
This should clear up any questions you have regarding which unit you have.

Please keep us informed on what you find.

Unfortunately I won't have time tomorrow as my daughter is in surgery through the afternoon.
I would suspect taking the inlet off would give you tons more room to see the blades and read the serial. If the turbo was a rebuilt unit, sometimes the blades vs Serial# won't match because they put the s internals or upgraded wheels in. So the combo of s# and blade pic should help solve this mystery.
Even just looking at the outlet shape and size.
As far as pics go. I use an iPhone and you could slide it down there and snap a shot of the plate with HDR on
Same thing for the wheel

I hope everything goes well with your daughter first of all, and I'll grab some photos with my phone and post them. Whenever you do have time check it out and I will measure the outlet pipe for you as well. Thanks for the help and again good luck tomorrow.

Thx, it's just a preliminary surgery for her Duane's syndrome, but as a parent I'm still nervous.
Take it easy and don't fret to much, Family first is always my attitude <3
That link I posted should clear up exactly what turbo. But number of blades is the most important as far as which revision you have I think? Like I said I'm not an expert on the KKK series and it's been awhile since I've had one to look at lol
