i wanted to find out if the two strips that run down the sides of the roof come off?? i have looked on the forums and found nothing.... i'm going to paint my roof since my front windshield was just hit with a rock.... Here in Florida they replace the front windshield for free:).... so my buddy at the body shop told me to sand the roof down this weekend and he will have the windshield taken out and replaced the next day... that will give him time to paint it.. i think it will look good... the car is red.... i have already painted my front grill, mirrors, rear lower diffuser and rear light all hi gloss black... So i think it will fit.. i am going to sand the roof this weekend.. before i start. i wanted to find out if those two strips that run down the sides of the roof come off?? there is some felt in there and i would like to cover that with tape before its paint.... i really dont want to start to take down the headliner to find out there is no way to unbolt them from in the car.. has anyone done this???? thanks for the help....

I would check out this thread first HERE (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/433294-Removing-the-two-roof-strips-on-a-2008-A4?highlight=). It seems like this guy has the exact same problem. [wrench]

Pretty sure they are glued in. One of mine was replaced because it was popping up. Not sure why they didn't just re-glue.

I had mine wrapped in vinyl along with the two strips. Its been done for about a year now and haven't had any issues and I love it.

did you tuck the vinyl into the felt flaps? or just cut them very close?

well it turns out the two strips come off very easy..... you use a pick at the end and start to pull up... the plastic strip is pushed into a rubber gasket... the strip looks like a "T" so when you push the strip down it expands the rubber sideways and it holds in place... so you just pull up on the ends "front and back" and pull it out of the rubber strip... my body shop said to paint the roof and the strips on the car it will never come out perfect... so this worked out they came off because the shop http://www.goravenswood.com/ said they would not even paint it if the two strips did not come off.... i will try to post photos but i still having problems....

Personally, I would do vinyl instead of paint if I were you. Reversible if you don't like it or want to change down the road.

no antenna, so did they take the headliner out as well?no that was easy... i did that... you just take the rear panel off the two o shit handles, the center light pops out.... all very easy... then there was a nut that held the finn on.. there are two antenna wires run to the back window area you unplug and ur off.... let me just say you could get to the nut with only taking light down but a little tricky to get too...

It's not that bad. I have black on black. The key thing is to park in the shade and you're golden.
