Hey Guys, I tried searching for the cost but couldn't dig up much. I would love to give the DIY a shot but do not trust myself with this. Anyways, any info on how much it will cost me to get my passenger side wheel bearing replaced?
I'm getting a humming sound when I make a left turn at 40+mph. I'm 95% sure the passenger side bearing is the source of the humming noise. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!
Ron

Anyways, if I am remembering this right, it was around $650 to replace both. so I'd say prob around $400 for you? I'm not an expert but its a start. Good luck!

Thanks TMurt. Was this at a dealer or just a regular garage "trusted" garage? Thanks again man.

UPDATE :: So I jacked my car up on each corner. I have no clicking in revolutions of the wheels and no "play" from the push/pull method on any wheel. So why the f*** am I getting a humming sound during a left turn at 40+ MPH. I have new tires (put them on yesterday) so I know it isn't due to feathering/chopping. CV Joint?? HALP!!

it was actually the cost to do our old a6 a few years ago. But it was as a garage specializing in German cars.
It looks like in your avatar pic that you don't have much wheel gap. The right front wheel could be rubbing I guess. Although that'd be strange for only one wheel to do it. Maybe a shock is starting to give way? I'm not sure, I don't know a lot of the technical aspect yet

Yeah it's the true sline suspension, gap is about index and middle finger wide. I don't know it's rubbing, i doubt it. HOpefully other fellow ziners can chime in cause it's throwing me for a loop.

I just did a search and found one thread posting the same problem, everyone said it is the wheel bearing. I'd still get that checked. The other responses to a humming sound was a power steering fluid leak. But that was at lower speeds. You might want to make a new thread. Thats all I got haha

Yeah I saw the stuff about the fluid...I'm 99% sure that's not the issue. I need to get this solved especially because I do some distance driving on the weekends. I was hoping someone on here would have some info. Thanks alot for responding man.

Having the same problem. But i hear squealing/squeaking at 25-35mph when turning left. Jacked up the car to see if there was wheel play but there wasn't so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Drives ya nuts, doesn't it? Still researching what my problem can be. Update the thread if you hear anything.

:: UPDATE :: A more detailed description of the issue: It's not really happening in a straight line however, anytime load is transferred to the right (like making a left turn) the humming sound occurs. The harder the left turn, the more aggressive the humming becomes. Again, it's only noticeable at 40mph+

I'm having the same problem I think it may be my alignment because that's when it started happening. I'm going to get re-aligned because I have lifetime alignments so it won't hurt to try and they could let me know what it is also. If it is the wheel bearing like many have said above, would it be covered under the extended warranty?

I have an annoying howling noise as well, worst from 40+ MPH but does it straight line, turning etc. I have had new wheels, new tires (2 sets) and an alignment done. Also had the wheel bearings checked at 2 places, it has not gotten worse in about 50,000 miles of driving, but it is 50,000 miles of driving me fucking nuts.

Hahaha naiku, that's really it for me too....not getting worse just driving me out of my mind. I'm getting it professionally looked at again on the 18th. Hoping to keep this thread going strong until then with more people chiming in. Then I'll finally get it diagnosed on the 18th and update everybody.

Ive had wheel bearings go bad yet show no signs of play. Just because there's no play doesn't excuse it for not being bad.

That's what I'm guessing. Thanks for replying, Jason!

Any one know if the wheel bearings would be covered under the extended warranty?

The wheel bearing would be covered, if you still have extended warranty. I am having the same issue and my warranty just expired. Damn it. Passenger side bearing is most likely bad. Getting the same noise when turning left.
I was quoted $305 to do just the one side. Only 40,000 miles too.

i think its the strut. the sounds im hearing is more of a rattling sound. happened when driving straight over things on the road and when making left turns and sometimes when making right turns.
Wait... why are you trying to find out what it is if you are CPO? Just take it in and let them figure it out then let you know. It all should be covered...
Last weekend, my car broke down 90 miles from home. Yellow, EPC & Check Engine lights came on. It had no power, and I was up at a friends house. I called up Audi, and had them tow it 90 miles to my local dealership, which didn't have any loaners, and none in my area had any with such short notice. So what did Audi do? They rented me a premium car from National, for 3 days.
It turned out to be a faulty relay... Simple cheap fix, which, I'm sure with enough time, I could have figured out. But this is why I paid the extra money for a CPO Audi.
If you are worried about your mods, drop it off, and then let them tell you what is wrong, and if they wont cover it due to mods, say "Thanks, I'll do it myself then", at least let them diagnosis it for you, if you want to fight them to do the work, that is up to you at that point.

Hey all, just revisiting this thread. It ended up being a wheel bearing for sure. I got it fixed at a private garage in Fairfield, CT called Fairfield Motorworks LLC. They were amazing to work with. Total cost was $365. Thanks!
