View Full Version : Stasis / koni ss coilover rear adjustment question

I have a quick question, for those of you with stasis/koni street sport coilovers. I read about the adjustment being impossible if the rear springs were installed right side up, so we ground down the rubber piece that the spring is supposed to attach to at the top (is it called a bump stop?) until it fit into the adjustment perch... but for some reason it seems like there is too much tension in the rear springs to adjust the height without totally dropping out the rear suspension... does anyone have this problem? as soon as we dropped the suspension it was doable.

...but who likes a thread without pictures? :D

also, did anyone with these coils get the tool to rotate the bigger ring in the suspension because mine only came with a tool to rotate the lock/lower ring thing...

thanks

Purchase wieght set lift wieghts for a year try again. Most likey it will get easier as it breaks in did you put grease on the white bearing.

Also you need to drive it a few hundred miles before you have the alignment or it will change after they are broken in

thanks, yeah I am mainly interested in saving my tires, and i plan to drive the car pretty hard today. another alignment in another 250 mi or so (I am gonna drop it more in a few weeks when they're broken in). wanna stance it aggressively for the summer since this is my first car with adjustable suspension

is it possible that they will be easier to adjust once broken in? the spring is gonna compress more, releasing some of that tension, correct?

thx [up]

I went with FK's but mine are the same way. Had to drop the subframe to relieve tension then I was good to go. Super PITA but I spoke with a guy at ESE Tuning and he told me there wasn't another way.

I had to drop the exhaust and subframe to adjust those buggers. Its a pain in the ass.

Also, I'd honestly wait a few more miles than 250....It took about a solid 750 before they stopped settling on me.

First day they all were 25'' FTG
After ~750miles I had 25'' 24.5'' 24'' 24.75''

Thanks! I'll do that

how many miles do you have on them now? was it still very difficult to adjust after they settled? do all coilovers have this problem or just these haha?

I think your front springs are on upside down? Not sure if would make a difference.

Oddly enough, I just dropped it off at the garage today haha I have about ~1,000miles on them now. I let the garage guys adjust them so I couldn't tell ya. I just know they were telling me the rears are a PITA and they told me of the pain and agony they had getting them to set right. Legit guys too, big time porsche guys with a lot of creditability.

I'm pretty sure all coils go through this stage....

I have mine set up like the OP's rears and they are easy to adjust up and down, but I have had a hell of a time actually getting them set to where I want them height-wise. Getting them even has been a real task as they always seem to be change even after the break in.

see, why are mine such a pain haha, i want to be able to adjust with ease... :( they definitely should not be moving after they're broken in... I'm just waiting till I can drive it so that I stop caring about what a ridiculous pain this is going to be in the future

rear.

Right I know we are talking about the rears, I was just curious about the front springs. I just recently installed mine following the A4 mods write-up and I am almost positive I put the tightly coiled part of the spring on the top. I might have put mine on wrong, or it might not even matter?

I think you should be able to adjust them pretty easy. I coated all the threads and plastic washers with anti-seize. Did you lube yours up at all?

oh my bad. IDK if we installed em upside down... lol... that was just the way they were packaged... yeah we lubed it up, dunno why its so hard to move em but we'll see i guess in the future when we mess with them

haha well either you or I installed them upside down. Obviously both ways work so far. Good luck with the adjustments!

hooollly shit these are fun, my s-line suspension was sweeet but this is a totally new level.

dialed in the initial height perfectly (sigh, sad that it has to settle and change, but like i said i can go a tad lower when i readjust in ~750 ish miles). Was gonna pick up some spacers for the rear but IMHO i don't think they'd fit, maybe 3 or 5mm but its not even worth it haha for 1/5th inch... using that money elsewhere for sure

Damn now you have me all excited. I had mine delivered 2 weeks ago and will only get around to installing them tomorrow. I was curious if they would be much better than the s-line suspension I have now.

I see an RS4 rear swaybar in your future... ;)

Night&Day difference going from s-line to coils... s-line felt very, very stable in the corners until my first mod... apr chip. then it was already too much power for the suspension to handle, IMO. It has affected my steering, gives me way more grip around corners (I'm assuming those are both a result of better weight distribution among each tire, so more surface area?). and obviously it looks dead sexy in comparison. Install was a BITCH. I couldn't believe how hard it was to get the stock rear springs out!!! we were worried

You're psychic!! RS4 Swaybar was just added to my list yesterday... Was talking to my mechanic about it, he said it would be noticeably different... addiction is a word not extreme enough for modding... i am beyond infatuated haha

Figured rather than start a new thread I'd just threadjack this a bit but its relevant i swear. For adjusting the rears my friend did a "perch mod" for his vogts. does anyone have a link to a DIY for this? I've looked around a bit but found nothing. I think it basically involves drilling the perch and putting a bolt in to keep the coil from spinning when you go to adjust it. Going to install some PSS9s in about a month and would rather get it all right the first time.

For all of you with koni/stasis SS, which dampening setting did you set your cars at??

For all of you with koni/stasis SS, which dampening setting did you set your cars at??

I just installed my Koni coilovers this past weekend and am amazed at the results. Really a big difference from s-line.

I set the dampening to 1.25 turns (out of 1.75). The shaft will turn 1 revolution, and then .75 of another revolution to max stiffness. I turned mine 1 and then .25. The dampening is just a little stiffer than stock, not too harsh - my wife notices that it is stiffer but never complained about it.

but damn it looks sexy... front fender at 25". Can't remember rear height but slightly raked.

I followed the A4Mods.com install diy. It included the rear perch flip where you put spring adjustment perch at the top as opposed to the bottom so that you can adjust more easily on the car.

I would love a diy to adjust the dampening. I originally had my car set at 24" all the way around, after rubbing tires and not being able to go over speed bumps, I know have the front set at 24.75" and rear 25". As far as I know, in order to adjust the dampening (whether front or rear), you have to take the coilover off the car to do so? Can anyone shed light on this?

TIA~[wrench]

yeah you have to remove the shock to adjust the dampening... PITA

There is a DIY on audimods.com, I printed it and I'm going to bring to my local Mechanic to see about adjusting the front to be a tad softer...
