Is there a way I can use a normal headlight switch w/o the Auto mode that has to be turned on first? What else does the Auto mode control that I can live w/o? The car has the moving bi-xenons.

I have this now:

and want a normal one like this...

Is there a Euro switch I can just pop in and not get any funky alerts?

No idea but just curious why you don't want auto?

I don't have the Auto option on mine. What would I need to do to retrofit mine to use the Auto? I used to drive a LR3 and the Auto lights was my favorite thing about it.

What's wrong with your switch?
I don't think it will cause any issues, just won't use the auto-feature I guess. I know some people with b7's don't have the AUTO on their switches. All it really does is light up your headlights when it starts getting dark.

Nebone & Garret you guys should pm each other and trade lol

I don't want Auto as I like to run parking lights when it is not fully dark out and only switch to HID when I need them. With the Auto, I have to turn to Auto first which starts the lights for a second just to get to parking lights mode. I think it's useless. Plus I'd like to run fogs in parking lights mode. MK4 Euro switches allowed any mode to be on, and that's what I'm looking for with the B7.

I always just go straight through auto to parking lights or mains, with no effect from passing through auto.

Same here. Auto won't actually engage until maybe a split second later, if you just flick through it, they don't turn on. At least in my experience.

Or just always leave it on Auto... then when you want, turn it to parking lights, when done, or dark out, put it back to auto.

Does anyone use the Auto mode? I haven't tried it since I got my A4 a couple of months ago. Is it worth using?

Worth using? If turning the headlight switch is too much for you or you're one of those idiots who drive with their parking lights on in the middle of the night then yea definitely.

I leave mine in Auto [:)]

Hate seeing people run their fogs on during the day - it's lame.

x2. The only time mine is not on auto, is when it is raining but still bright enough out that the auto doesn't turn on the lights... Oh, and when valet attendants think the headlights aren't automatic.

I love not having to touch the lights or the wipers, I get in our civic, and it feels so out of date, I actually have to turn on the headlights and wipers... HAHAHA
