i have a 03 awp motor and i have both sets of coils, bolt down and push down. they both work and the bolt down seem a little smoother but that could just be in my head[confused]

On my 02 GTi (AWP motor too) with Revo chip my #3 coil (push-on) would come off and then start causing misfires. Got them swapped out for the recall, and never had trouble again.

was the recall for bolt down coils or did they just replace the push down coils?

Recall is for 2001 and up only. So that would be the push down coils, yes.

i'm a ase tech and had 4 good bolt down coils at my shop. i bought the car and it had push down's,and wanted to see if the bolt downs would work.they did!so just wondering what coil i should stay with?

Yep new push-downs.

If the bolt-down ones are running fine, then just leave them in there. Keep the pushdowns in the car "just in case."

i personally have seen more issues with missfires related to the push down style ones, my bolt down stlye ones havnt given me any issues so far and there still the originals( 180k later)

Well seeing that Audi is on their 4th or 5th version of the push down coil, cant really ever say they were better then anything.

The Hitachi/Beru bolt down coil has been the best one Audi has ever used. But it actually runs on a different signal scale, so some B6 owners find the car doesn't run nearly as good as it does with a good set of push down coils.
