edited to remove some specifics.....

So, the other day, after being frustrated with my dim headlights for the longest time (halogens) I decided to replace them on my own. This turned out to be a 3 hour job that, as I discovered in the end, I really DID NOT have to spend three hours removing the front bumper to do, but hey, live and learn. After putting the bumper back on, I noticed that it was pretty out of wack with a big gap. Yes, I know now how to fix it, but swore I would never go through having to do that again because it was a pain in the ass, so I took it to my local dealer to have them replace the other bulbs (something I wish I did when I had it out the first time) AND to re-align the bumper. I also wanted to have them check another issue, which Ill explain now....

The past three months or so Ive been dealing with that hard 1-2 shift many of us experience with our 6speeds. After a lot of research, I saw the videos from JHM explaining common transmission issues and was like "wow, its got to be the shift collar!" and was kind of at ease that I may have finally found the culprit that has been pissing me off for so long.

Four hours later, I pick my car up and this is what I find out:
The front bumper was NOT RE-ALIGNED like I was told several times it would be, so I paid 130 dollars for them to replace the TWO HIGH BEAM BULBS I SUPPLIED

Also, the transmission/shift issue...

The service adviser told me that, the clutch was engaging very high and this was causing my rough 1-2 shifting feeling. I suggested the shift collar issue, he said "what, did you read that online or something? take that stuff with a grain of salt, those RARELY ever go bad on these cars" He went on to say that the only way to adjust the clutch engagement and fix the issue was an entire new clutch assembly, etc the whole 9 yards, and he said probably the flywheel as well. WITHOUT the flywheel he said around 2500 dollars to fix the problem. If i recall, cant clutch engagement be adjusted somehow? Also, he said that the clutch was slipping in 5th gear...

Does that make any sense, how the hell could it be in 5th gear only? Wouldn't it slip ANY time power was applied to it, irrelevant of what gear it comes from? I SPECIFICALLY clarified before I left the car there, that irregardless of the malfunctioning part (warranted or not) that I would not be charged for the diagnosis, since this is a CPO car.Yet, their diagnosis which probably took all of 10 minutes, cost me 150 bucks. If Im wrong, someone please provide some insight. All I know is that place is run by a bunch of shady hood rats and I got raped for nothing.

As mentioned above, if you get the right people at Tysons its a lot better then alexandria. Then again, I have never had luck at Tysons either. Alot of the techs jumped over to Chantilly (same owners) so you might want to try their as well.

How bad is the shift? Is it just a grind or does it not want to engage at all? Have you tried replacing the trans fluid as this can clean up the shift tremendously.

A clutch will slip proportionately to the load on it. High gears will slip befoe low gears. is a shift collar that hard to check on your own?

is it really slipping?
