Hi everyone,
I am currently entering a lawsuit trying to get back rights to my site tinaalia.com. It's kinda a messy long story, and I dont really want to get into all that.
I recently got signed by a great sponsor and they requested that I do what I can to make it mine again. I spoke to my lawyer and he told me that since my name isnt on the site's registration, claiming it to be mine, it would be difficult and that I would have to get any and all proof that associates me with the name "TinaAlia". Whether its pictures of the sticker on my car, my name posted in random places relating to my car/me, etc.
So I just wanted to ask, that if you see anything, posted anywhere, in relation at all to tinaalia, my car or anything of that sort - would you please post it here. I know this is a weird question to ask but I'm hoping to also use this thread in my defense.
Any help would be great.
Thank you :)

Tricky situation at best.
If it's not a stupid question, how did you lose the site to start with and why does the current owner not want to let you have it back?

long story short - old bf said that for xmas he would re-register the site for me and do an overhaul on it. As our relationship progressed (and my website didnt), I found that he was nothing short of crazy boyfriends you hear about on TV. After several attempts, I finally broke w/him. He kept the site. I waited a whole year for the registration to expire, but he re-registered it before I could snag it. I was just going to let it go, but the new sponsor wants me to have it back.

That blows. I mean ur screen name is proof in and of itself. I've seen the website like once so that doesn't help much. I shall keep my eyes peeled. [:)]

Kirk,
Names don't mean anything and they certainly don't cut it legally. If he owns it fair 'n' square you're entirely relying on his cooperation to get it back. I've seen this numerous times, even with big conglomerates as one of the waring sides, and there really is very little that can be done if all the proper WHOIS stuff says it's his. If he was a poor enough BF to be with he's almost certainly going to be an even worse adversary.
Only course of action I can think of is reason with him or offer him a decent purchase price for it. Copyright law is both complicated and extremely long winded and complex in CA for very good reasons.
Best of luck.

He doesnt necessarily own it fair and square... I gave him all the information so that he could do work on it - so technically i "hired" him and he never did the job. And then instead of giving it back to me, he changed all the info, and then re-registered it so that I could no longer get into it and claim it as mine... I feel like that would be considered theft...?

Well whether it's morally wrong or not, if his name is on the registrants documentation it's going to be hell to prove it actually belongs to someone else - even if it is your name.
You or your lawyer could go direct to GoDaddy (or the ODEGARD group - whoever they are!) to bring the contested URL, and details, to their attention but if you're name isn't on the owners documentation it's going to be a sticky situation at best. Your lawyer may have a bloody good case for you but I know these things can take years - literally - unless you have serious weight behind your case.

I have to agree with Glyn on the 'cold hard cash' approach. See about buying him out - or having your sponsor front some of the dough.
That said, I hope ex-bf isn't on the forums, and doesn't see our advice. Otherwise he may jack up his pricing. [:D]

I thought with the Targa Trophy photos, you had your name moniker on the side of your S5...

Tine, let it go. Leave the douchebag along as it's toxic to associate with him or anything he is doing. It's not worth the time, money, stress and any headaches that this lawsuit will bring.
Think ahead and register tinaalia.net and never look back.
Good Luck!
Well let's hold on here, I owned a web marketing and design firm for years and had a few issues like this. Intellectual property may suppersede any actual ownership. Proof that information on the site belonged to u is most important, what is on the site now?

^^
Go take a look!
Nothing is there, which means Tina has no claims to anything as far as I can tell. It's a knock down, drag out fight - if she wants the grief!
I'm with Ed. Go get another .com or .net and move on.

Is it weird that tinaalia.com is on a refresh rampage?
Excessive requests like refreshes can put a website our of service. Deliberate? Whatevs.

... took 15min so I hope it helps ?
I'm not a fan of shitbag moves, surely you aren't either. So if you truly feel you can do something about it then stand tall.
