View Full Version : Eibach or H&R sport springs

I think I will lower my car sometime soon. I think I'm going to use Koni shocks (I've heard they aren't too harsh for bad roads) but can't decide between Eibach or H&R springs. I know the H&R spings drop about .5 inch lower but can't see that being too noticeable. I only have 17 inch 5 spoke rims (single spoke not split). Any recommendations or picture with 17s?

Here's the car now

ive seen some H&R's on s4's and come out great.
how much of a drop does the koni's provide?

I believe Strut/Shocks aren't the ones that provide the low. It's the springs.
If you're doing a Spring + Shock combo, I'd rather suggest going COs.

The Koni kit drops it about 1.2 inches, same as the Eibach springs. The H&R says its drop is about 1.6-1.7

From what I've been reading (as I am looking to upgrade my suspension soon) the H&R springs are stiffer than Eibach's. As for pictures, look into this thread:

I personally have never used Eibach but I can tell you that I just put on H&Rs on mine and could not be happier.

Yeah I don't want to give up too much comfort. I think Eibachs would be ok especially if I moved up to 18s later. Although H&Rs probably look better with the 17s

I went with a Vogtland Jr. kit (springs&shocks). I recently put on 19's and just knew I'd have to move on to coils, but after putting them on, the need to move to coils has gone away. I like the look, and doubt I'd want it any lower, of course that's all preference but so far the drop seems to be on the money. And the ride comfort has been very smooth. When I has 18's, I went on a canyon run, and the car handled just right!

See that's what I'm thinking. I'm not a fan of dropping it so far that the wheel wells are touching the tires basically. I just want only and inch or so of gap. That's why I don't think I'll need to get coilovers

That seems to be the common idea so far. Which even though its a lesser drop might be good for the conditions. What size rims are you on?

Yeh, I just installed them last Friday morning, so I don't have detailed pics yet. But the drop is just about spot on. And I was honestly already looking at coils and prepped to buy them over the weekend, but thus far, I don't think I need too.

I've seen about half the people say that you'll regret not getting coilovers and the rest saying they are fine with spring/shocks. I guess it just depends how much you like to adjust your car

Looks like Eibach seem to be the common choice and the less harsh ride with plenty of drop it looks like. Thanks guys!

Just dropped my car about 2 weeks ago, went with H&R Springs and Bilistein Struts, ride is firm but not too harsh with arount a 2 inch drop all around (looks beautiful), keep in mind that the springs will settle as well over time.

I have driven in both. I have seen both. Looks wise, H&R does the trick. Eibach has a more oem feel and isn't as harsh. It kind of sits like a b6 A4, not high but not low.

If I had an A4 again, I would go with Eibach instead of H&R.

I'm currently deciding between springs too. Eibach vs H&R vs Neuspeed.
I want a smooth ride as well so I guess Eibach gots that, but then the drop is only 1.2". I want something thats like.. 1.5"-1.7"
:S
So hard to decide

Yeah that 1.6 range pushes you into the H&R springs. It seems like an even split between what people say is better. I'm sure I'd be happy with both.

By the way, what I usually do to find low prices is google the part (i.e. Eibach Pro Springs) and the car (Audi A4). I get a bunch of links to stores that are never mentioned on Audizine. This same website that has the Vogtland Jr kit also sells the Eibach springs for $248. I think TireRack sells them for less. Buy the parts online unless a shop is welling to match the cheapest prices you find.

When a shop refuses to install parts brought in by you then most likely they will rip you off. They mark up the product price and add a little to their labor and there you go. Go to a different store and try to get the best quote for labor. Suspension installation is nothing special, so it doesn't even have to be the most reputable shop. Any good shop will be able to do it. And with this economy, you'll find someone who's desperate [:D]

Find a tuner shop, i.e. a place that is a APR, REVO, GIAC, Unitronic dealer, as they will also normally be able to handle suspension. Also post in your regional section, as you might find a member that can do it, or a member that has friends in the modding industry, that might be able to help you out.

I'll try some others like you said, I was disappointed because we've taken our out of warranty German cars there several times but I guess its time to look somewhere new. Do you think that a $400 instal should include alignment? They quotes $135 for the alignment at the place that is a rip off.

Have'nt made a move yet, just got the windows tinted though. I'm having trouble justifying the springs because I'll have to leave the car for a year anyways for freshmen year of college. And there is no gurantee I will be able to have it at all depending on what school I end up at. There's just a lot up in the air. I don't want to blow 1200 dollars and then only use the car for 1 year. If I do make a move, It will be in the next month. If not, then it looks like it won't happen.

But I did decide that if I do go ahead with it, I'll get Eibachs and Koni Sports. I'll keep that .5 inch that the H&Rs would take away to avoid scapring it on parking blocks and my driveway
Let me know how you like the H&Rs though!
