wheel dilemma spacer size

i wanted to put my wheels on today on my b7 but came to a hault when the front wheel was touching the front caliper .....18x8 38offset rpm505...the back was good so i figure i need spacers for the front ? what size and what size bolt ? also it would make sence to spacer the rear ? they wheels fit on my b6 no problem i also noticed my stock are 45 offset so im guessin the higher the offset the more clearnance ? i think last time someone told me 5mm in front and 8mm in back ?

I would listen to the person who said 5mm front 8mm back.

Measure it. No need to guess. That being said, you could fit at least a 10mm up there.
