I've been doing some research lately, and I stumbled upon unitronics stage II chip for '01 A4. Uni claims 230bhp and 260lb-tq with an TB exhaust system and intake system while only running 16lbs of boost. How is that so? [confused][confused]

Check out their site - http://www.unitronic-chipped.com/main/en/files/84_2001-2001_audi_a4_b5_18t_170hp.html

Has anyone on this forum run this tune? If so, please share your comments.

I'm currently running a 91 octane (93 is available in TN) GIAC chip. I like the chip, but I also like my power. Uni seems to have the best bang for the buck. I don't want to go any higher than a K04, so I could upgrade if the K03s crap's out.

Also, curious to know why an '01 doesn't need a set TT injectors? I guess the AWM came stock with better injectors?

Happy tuning!

If you won't go passed a K04, then I think you'd be better off going with a Stage 2 GIAC tune since you will get a discount for the Stage 2 tune, and then get a discount when you do your K04.

GIAC has a stage II tune for '01 A4?

I bought the ECU second hand with the flash, so technically I won't get the discount. Unless I'm unaware of something. . . I was just going to sell the GIAC ECU once I got a new chipped ECU.

Wasn't aware of that. It seems to me like you could still get the discount, but I'd call to be sure. I'm also unsure of other tuners K04 files and the power that can be made with them. I just know GIAC has been proven to work, which is why I suggested staying with it.

My GIAC chip is solid. I'm going to stay with the K03s for the time being. Hey - if it ain't broke don't fix it, right?

I think you could consider the GIAC K04 tune a stage II. The thing is AWE tuning sells a K04 upgrade that only claims 235bhp and 265lb-tq for $1,700 - http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/audi/a4/a4-1996-2005/1-8t-96-01/awe-awek04.html Not much difference from the Uni stage II tune that is for the K03s.

I have the unitronic stage 2 tune on my ATW, but it does not boost 16lbs, it spikes 22 and settles at 20.

230chp with a K03, not going to happen. Even most of the K04-15 setups have a hard time making that much power unless they are running really high boost.

2001 doesn't need large injectors like he B6's because it has a FPR at the fuel rail just like the rest of the B5's. The B6 has a static fuel pressure, so this is why they tend to need larger injectors to make the same amount of power the B5's make.

That was my thought exactly. I wonder if anyone has any dyno sheets to prove that claim? At this point I'm not sure if it's worth the money. Might as well buy the K04 and be done.

Ahhhh - now it makes sense.

K03 still isn't going to flow enough air to make 230hp on pump gas, even with a test pipe. Maybe closer to 220.

I have just about all the bolt on for my AWM. Here are guestimation number of what I "should" have.

stock: 170bhp
93 octane tune: ~205bhp
Full exhaust system: ~215bhp

Do I think that's what my car is making? Nope. I would like to know the actual numbers, but it has to be less (I am thinking around the 200chp range, simply because of it's age). My car may look fast on the road, but it isn't[drive].

Seems like reasonable numbers. So the consensus is to get a bigger turbo. Haha

I think I'll stay with my current set-up, and run it to the ground. It's my DD with 155K on the clock. I at least want 200K out of it.

BTW - I'm putting(finally) my Stasis C/O, Lemforder S4 TRE's, and 034 upper CA's on this Wednesday. That should quench from tuning thirst.
