I have a silver a4. New Hampshire requires front and rear plates. I am jealous of the states (like AZ) where you don't need front plates. In fact, my temp. paper plate fell off today, and I got lit up by the police, dumb!
Anyhow, what is the consensus on "smoked out" or grey license plate covers?
Something like this:

I just keep my front plate in a drawer in my garage, but saying that may have just jinxed me.

Edit: x3. The grille of the b7 is one of the more beautiful parts of the car, don't make it ugly with a US front plate.

You'll get pulled over if you have that on.
Ask me how I know.

Although I'd hate to use a front license plate holder, I think putting it on the tow hook is beyond tacky.

I never really heard of this podi plate holder before, but after a quick search, I'm leaning towards "it looks like shit," haha. Not being a d***, just sayin.

A while ago they made it 500 posts for 4 rings, but then they bumped it up to 1000. Losing a ring is something I never want to go through again [=(]

To each its own. It's not permanent nor expensive so try it on and see how you like it. Worst case scenario, you wasted a few dollars and remove it.
On a side note:

Not being a "post whore" that I am, it took me quite a while to reach 500 posts for that infamous "Four Rings" status. Then once I received it, Audizine decides to increase it to 1000 posts, SMH! It took me until recently to acquire my "Four Rings" status once more! So I'm proud to have my "Four Rings;" a second time around! [race]
You'll get pulled over if you have that on.

x2. I watched as I was exiting the Lincoln Tunnel on the NJ side coming back from the city, as cops were pulling over every car with a cover on their plate (there was traffic as usual, so I was able to see a few pulled over). It honestly would have been better to have NOT had a plate at all on, because there are a lot of PA, and FL plates on cars around, so they just assume from the front that's what it is. But ANY cover sticks out to them.

^ They would be checking for expired inspection stickers as well. So if you have an NJ inspection sticker with no front plate, you most likely would have been pulled over regardless.

Check out the weathertech plate cover. I have it on my car and it's very high quality.

That is highly possible too.
If you are traveling at normal speed, they might miss (if you are lucky) the inspection sticker & missing plate (since they have to notice both), but for sure plate covers are an immediate red flag, regardless which state you live in.

The plate covers are popular here because of the red light cameras, but I just run a regular old Audi Sport frame. [:D]

I ran no front plate for over a year and had no problems over here in washington. but other states r harder on it. I say it looks Tacky on the front but i do have one on the back of my black A4

I say no front plate is the only way to go on an Audi, regardless of state laws!! I also think
some of these plate covers do look "tacky" and some do look of better quality. I have a smoked
plate cover on the rear, and I think it looks great. Since I am from Jersey, my plate is BRIGHT yellow
while everything on my car is black, or silver/chrome. The bright yellow plate really stands out and
bothers me, so I slapped the tinted cover over the plate, and now it looks great. The yellow is much
more subtle, and helps the look of my car. One thing to keep in mind about the covers (especially smoked),
the police do NOT like them...

originally i wanted a clear cover so it looks clean instead of having a dirty front plate w/ bugs and dirt etc, but a quick check and i found out that it's illegal to cover your license plates in NY. Supposedly there are covers that reflect the flash of a red light camera, so they banned covers altogether. Not sure if its worth the ticket, but i don't risk it. good luck with whatever you choose

Running no front plate just gives cops a reason to pull you over and find something actually worth ticketing. In my opinion I would go no plate cover on the front but rear is fine as long as the tint is not too severe.

Tacky, If anything run without a plate. I have for years and I'm getting ready to put mine back on because the fines were just increased and small town cops and meter maids love that ticket.

You could always do like I did... do 4 yrs in the Navy, get the veteran plate, don't put on the front one. They still pull over but they cut me some slack.
