Just bought an 06 A6 Avant and noticed that the passenger side LED "Background" light is out. The whitish one that is normally adjusted through the MMI.

Has anyone had this issue and know if it is the LED strip that is bad, or something else?

I'd like to buy the part and replace it myself, so if anyone has had experience with this, please share!

I had the same issue a couple of years ago in the front passenger door. It turned out to be the bulb. I had the dealer replace it, so I can't help on the procedure.

Thanks. What's the best way to remove the wood trim? I have found a writeup on replacing the light bar, but it doesn't have any pictures. I guess I just need to know which side of the trim to start from, and if I am to pry up/down/left/right etc. to avoid breaking the trim.

Here is what I got from another forum:
"1. The door panel does NOT have to come off-**-Just take the 5 screws out and pull the door handle while holding the bottom of the door so that the door panel comes forward. After removing the wood trim expose the wires for the led lighting and while pulling the door panel forward reach in to the top of where the wires are coming from and just unclip the harness. Thats it

2. The harness if opened has a resistor in it which are known to burn out due to the excessive heat they create.

3. You can either replace the led bulb or the resistor to see which one has gone bad. Since resistors go bad more often than leds then I would just try that first.

Good luck"

Here are the part #'s for the different LED bars: *note, double check your vin because there is a vin split and prices differ.

4F0 919 174 A front right
4F0 919 177 B back left
4F0 919 178 B back right"

Went to the dealer today to pick up something else and asked about the price.... They quoted $84. World Impex has it for $54.52. I haven't bought it yet. but will soon. If anyone finds a better price for the passenger front, please post up!

I went ahead and placed an order with primeparts. Once I get the light bar, I'll do a DIY post with pics and add it to this thread as I'm sure more and more owners will be experiencing this problem as their cars get older.
