so as we all know there are a bunch of dip shit drivers out there and i met one today... long story short i tried to honk at him and found my horn doesn't work but the alarm can still make the horn beep... i think its inside the wheel and i really could care less but i don't think it will pass inspection.... how much and what do i have to do to fix this if its in the wheel? could use the help asap cause im getting it inspected this week

the alarm and the car horn are two seperate "horns"..

the alarm horn/siren/speaker is located in the trunk on the driverside of the car behind the panel.

the horn on the steering wheel is in the front of the car and usually has two "sirens" with one being on each side close to the fender behind the bumper. either you have a blown fuse for the horn or the horns are blown so you would have to replace them.

iv checked the fuse and its good but you dont think that it could be inside the steering wheel at all?

factory horns do fail, yours might be bad, ive had a couple go out

so should i get the actual horn from the front of the car and replace it and if that doesn't fix i could check behind the wheel?

get a test light, hook it up to the horns in the front and have someone press the horn and see if the test light lights up. its rare for the steering wheel switch for the horn to go bad unless the airbag blew.

There was a recall on these if you have an early A4. Mine don't work either. But same exaxct thing as yours, the alarm one works. I've just never bothered to fix it.

Supposedly its just a short somewhere.
